I will stick to software for now.
Now that I finally have internet at home, I've been watching a few tutorials and examples of shit being made with Touch Designer and it's more overwhelming than I thought, in the best way.
The advantage vs going hardware, other than not having to invest any cent, is that I already started to learn TD and I got the basics down, now I will have to find some time to get more into it.

AND I recently found many of my visual "heroes" have used TD for their shit, so that's a big + for me:

Thought of you when I found this. It's an overlay specifically for Video Editing for Sensel. Might be up your alley.

PDF for a 1992 book on media arts. Lots of old video synths covered.
https://monoskop.org/log/?p=43

Wish I could find the video of this dude on vimeo that made a tape delay from two VCRs, a projector, and a video camera. The tape was cycling loose from one VCR to the other (like some frippertronics monstrosity or 1960s tape party). The video camera would record a wall that was projected on by the other VCR (rerecording a projection plus new visual data at the same time). It was setup for people walking into a studio but could be neat for a band playing.

I think I'm to the point where I have grown out of iMovie. I tinkered with vector animation for a while. Did some "traditional" style drawn sequential and sequenced panels, but that stuff gets tedious and expensive haha. I used typing paper. Making 3 minutes took way way too long and I had to just like repeat frames and do still pans. There was probably a better way but I probably only had enough money at the time for that bundle of printer paper.

Think that was the one. Thanks. Maybe Vimeo was having problems last time I looked (about a year ago).

This is a video of my band playing behind a mesh with some visuals I made/stole(it's Brakhages "Mothlight" with the contrast/brightness taken to extremes):

At this gig we had a mesh-drop after this tune(opening song), but in the future we'd like to have the mesh up for the whole gig and have visuals for every song.
Not sure how we'll do it yet though. Might just have one video-loop pr song and find a way to execute it from the stage, but it would be awesome to have something more "organic" as well.

Nice, Ognoy! What did you use for the mesh, and could the crowd see you through it at all? The Brakhage stuff does lend itself well to visuals.

We got this one from Thomann:
https://m.thomannmusic.no/adam_hall_gaz ... _white.htm

If the audience could see us depended on the lights on stage. If you watch from around 14:40 and till the end of the video there are some clips where you can see The band through the mesh.

Ughhh I'm the worst and really fell into the research of this rabbit hole. Fuqqqq.
Posting this cause I think my "set up" will be similar. I plan on using software for the source material and analog stuff for the effects/coloring/shape shifting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dt78TaS4E4
APPS TO KEEP IN MIND:
1. Lumen (Mac only)
2. TouchViz (for Ipad)
3. Cathodemer (This looks "rough around the edges" but... the SHIT!) http://www.hypertonal.net/cathodemer/
4. PixiVisor (Linux compatible!) https://warmplace.ru/soft/pixivisor/ -> I truly have not researched Linux apps. Not even just out of the box stuff but even just talking to people on linux forums who may or may not have made their own codes that 'sort of' work.
ETSY GLITCH SHIT -> There are like... 4 shops? Just seach 'video glitch synth'. You'll see them all. Less synthesis and more 'distortion' 'glitch' 'mixers'. I'm just going to list the shops. The only "trve" video synth shop is Reverse Land Fill. This one has the expansion pcb for the gieskes 3trinsrgb+1c. You will notice a lot of the mixers are just... variations of the same dirty mixer circuit.

Uh uh uh Other???
1. New LZX Standalone coming out this Spring. It looks like a toned down version of their new modules (the sliders) + the Navigator module + a ton of different video outputs. https://lzxindustries.net/products/chromagnon
2. I did not realize how many DIY modules LZX had.
3. BPMC Devices https://glitchart.com/shop/basic-cable/
RESOURCES (I WILL EDIT THIS POST AS I FIND MORE
1. https://glitchart.com/glitch-art-video-production/
2. Tachyons + also has a "how to"
3. The LZX Demos are just a wealth of information.
4. The Video Synth section in Muff is out there as well -> Read to find D E A L Z on things. I will repost this clearance projector link.
5. Craigslist (near me) has a whole slew of old shit to buy and circuit bend (Tachyons style). CRT monitors are getting price-y again per gamers. CCTV cameras can be found for next to nothing but the catch is you have to buy up the lot (and then you need a mixer with multiple ins).
MORE ON MIXERS
I sincerely did not know this... video mixers can do looping and sampling. Fuqqqqqq Needless to say those types can get real freaking expensive.
Post in process still... trying to find the CHEAPEST video mixer with looping... oh man... they're an arm and a leg.
EDIT 1: I can't read. They don't loop. Sorry. Long work day. The Roland Mixers do have sampling though. But it seems different than how "we" in the pedal world would use the term.
EDIT 2: Fun fact about Tachyons +. The dude does his circuit bending with the shit plugged into the wall. Yikes! So uh... any helpful tips if someone wanted to try it! Rubber gloves?
EDIT 3: Mixer with sampling (cheapest I could find... not going to be HDMI)
E3->O1 (Edit 3 Option 1  ) Roland V-02 HD (so does have HDMI) for around $600. Had 'input expander'.
E3->O2 (Edit 3 Option 2) Roland/Edirol V-4. This one does not explicitley say 'input expander'. It keeps coming up in my searches though for freezing inputs / my stupid idea of what 'sampling video live' means.

Regarding the cheap etsy mixers... I am hypothesizing they are all based around this https://www.perfectcircuit.com/gieskes- ... 2b-1c.html. Gieskes' mixer (or his is based on something too with tweaks). The Gieskes one is $180 and is tiny. You can score awesome video mixers for way less with way more features but... they're bulky.

Regarding "loops" in video mixers... I am not crazy... https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/pho/ ... 80296.html

The Gieskes Schele Mixer is a slightly more complex variant of what is colloquially called a "dirty mixer" or a "Klomp mixer". It's essentially the same as using a splitter to input two video signals. "Mixer" is a bit of a misnomer because what happens when you smash two signals together like that is less mixing, and more modulating - the stronger signal is modulated by the weaker signal, so mostly what you get is one signal or the other, but with some glitchy distortion. It should be thought of more as a technique or effect than something that is useful for mixing. The down side is that it fucks up your frame sync. Sync corruption doesn't matter so much when using CRT monitors, so that's the best choice. If you use a dirty mixer with any LCD screen or projector, it needs to be run through a time-based-correcter after or it just blanks, and the distortion has a different look to it. That said, they can be quite fun. I have the Geiskes Schele Mixer. It's a lot more tweakable than your average dirty mixer, and has some effects built in too - it's about the most expansive dirty mixer you can make, but it's not really a mixer and it's not for everyone. You can save some money by buying a kit directly from Gieskes. It's a pretty easy build, with one little fiddly part where you reuse a clipped resistor leg.

Thanks kaeth. When Perfect Circuit gets the VGA oscilloscope back in stock, I am going to get one. https://ask.audio/articles/oscillatosco ... ga-visuals.

Time based correctors are built into a bunch of things right? Not just CRTs? Actually I have noticed a lot of the "professional" mixers that people once had to pay to get rid of (that are now gaining traction price wise) have those built in.
