I put this sintir/guembri inspired thing together, using an oak dowel, an old test equipment chassis and weed wacker cord as strings. I just had .065 cord around the house and it's on both strings now, but I am going to pick up some .090 cord for the lower string, since the experiment seems to have worked. I'll add a piezo pickup as well.
my sweetie bought me a 12-button autoharp off of Facebook yard sale or whatever they call it. i'm looking forward to messing with it now that i got the tuning wrench off eBay. if i get significantly into it i might buy a second one and cannibalize the bars and cut new felt blocks to have more chords available so i can adapt it to play in a particular key; this one seems biased towards F.

hopefully some (well-heeled?) from California norteno snags this and gets their Sylvius Leopold Weiss on. (but if you plan on getting your Tuck Andress on, please keep it in the quarantine room)

Lately Etsy really wants to recommend I buy either a Saxon lyre, a lute, or a vielle (proto-violin)
In the past I’d been searching for a pocket violin (sometimes called a dance teacher’s violin I think) but I’m not sure that I’m gonna be able to make a weird, bowed instrument do what I want. Also debated one of those bowed lap violin things (I’ve forgotten the name) to play Banner Saga soundtrack type music on.
