murrrrr. my Michigan Synth Works Syncussion clone, the Syn0.5 (get it? it's one channel of the Syn1? POINT FIVE. SO CLEVER.), should be here Thursday. i'm having a blast with the Volteras, can't wait to run them into Syns.

playing with drums thoughts -

i've always been torn between using a sampler (less hp, always repeatable sounds, can unpatch and repatch with impunity) for drums and the so many awesome drum synthesis modules (so much range and delicious weirdness, that shizz is LOST as soon as you unpatch) out there. i put BIA, a 2hp Snare, the Fracture and Crucible in along with the Squib and spent the weekend working through different beats and ideas. it feels like for me the kick stays pretty steady and barely modulated, timing snares vs accent/rush snares i leave sonically pretty much alone, as long as hi hats can be set up where the closed chokes the open i like them pretty stable sonically. then anything ticky or weird or rhythmic but pseudo-drum sound, it's way more fun to use a specific module.

so -

kick, snare, hats - from a sample player
all accent and color pieces - modules excel

Squid is awesome, because of the ease of pitch and bit depth manipulation, it crosses the line with reliability of sound from a sampler and tweakiness of a module.

and man. the Crucible is amazing. it's listed as a hi hat, but it is way more a ride or splash cymbal to me. there's nothing in modular that gets as real feeling for cymbals.

now. need to learn all the combos and buttons by muscle memory for the Squid. it's so gooooood.

as much as i adore the Assimil8or, it's way more than i'll ever use. gonna list her.

TL;DR - Modular Drums are FUN.

Squid Salmple with CV modulating decay, speed/freq, sample rate, etc. gets closer to a drum module than any other sampler I've used in modular.
The only button combo I haven't memorized for whatever reason is choking. Which I need to do since I love that feature.

I could really get by with just the Salmple and a DFAM for all of my sound generating modules in a live context.

Watched loopop's Mimeophon video last night and now I am seriously gassing for one. The hold, skew, and flip controls look really fun. Too bad I have no room in my case; it's going to be awhile before I can really justify buying a Palette

thank you! lol. i had it tracking v/oct and doing some neat somewhat melodic stuff, but then i fucked up into the clicky stuttery feedback and OKAY I CAN DEAL WITH THAT.

it's still honeymoon phase, but if i had room i could see having two and running one as a noise source into the other's delay.

wanted to play with that today, having Mimeo do some noise to fill the buffer then switching over to longer zones to play with delay.

When it's tracking v/Oct I would buy that sound as an oscillator! It's really nice

So yeah, the Mimeophon sounds incredible.

Instant vibey goodness comes out it as soon as you put a melody through it.

I love this but I'm also want to poke fun because you finally dig a make noise module and somehow made it sound exactly like a mutable instruments rings.
