Hello guys, I've never posted in the 'General Discussion' before but I don't know where else this would go.
If anyone out there is reading my posts regularly, they'll be aware that I've namechecked Jon Hassell on more than one occasion. He's the single person to whom I have listened most. His melding of breathy, sensual trumpet sounds with electronica still sounds amazing, and in the 80s and 90s it was revelatory. Whether on his own records or as a sideman, Hassell's musical voice is unmistakeable.
I was genuinely upset to learn that he's in poor health and financial difficulties. His friend and former collaborator Brian Eno has written a tribute on a GoFundMe appeal page here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jon-hassell-fund
If this note inspires just one person to check out Hassell's music and donate to the appeal, I figure my time here on ILoveFuzz won't have been wasted.

Ah shit. I haven't listened to him at all but I will listen some today. Sadly my finances are utter shite at the moment and I have no money to spare

Really enjoy "Possible Music" and "Dream Theory in Malaya", particularly the latter. While working at Goodwill, I actually had a yearbook come in from a Canadian University he was a student at, opened it up right to Hassell's portrait, pretty surreal as it was shortly after I became aware of his work.

Hello guys, news just came in via the 'GoFundMe' page of Jon Hassell's death. I'm terribly sad. Something extraordinary has gone from the world. Please go and buy a copy of 'Aka Darbari Java'. NP
