the 1x12 cabinet i wasn't expecting until Friday arrived today. i was able to find a gently used one for price + shipping that's the same total cost as the free-shipped ones on eBay, but this one is Tolex-ed and includes a nice cloth grille and all the hardware required while the other is carpeted and doesn't include any kind of grille. i have a Weber JBL D120 clone my supervisor/jamming buddy gave me that's been sitting under my desk at work for about 3 years that's going in there tout suite.

I think it's maybe from around 2015-2016. I did not pay much attention to all this for a good while so could be very wrong too! (I was buying too much gear, too quickly so I distanced myself from forums for a few years)

From what I remember the first picture of this pedal Nick (the man behind Dunwich) ever shared here was in a raw 1590DD enclosure. He took the pic with the pedal sitting on his thigh, that was in June or July 2012. I remember it well, the thing was massive, it was dwarfing his leg (that's what she said...)

He went on to build one for Ryan@Dr Sci. around Oct. 2012 and then maybe another 1 or 2 for some other folk before he did small runs of his pedals. All these runs were built by Magic, while Nick was concentrating on amps, custom stuff, and R&D. The runs started in 2013 with the Wizard Fuzz (large enclosure similar to his early pic from 2012 but white) and the Cthulhu Fuzz (one knobber in a white 1590BB enclosure). That's when I got my WF.

Through time, the size of the Wizard Fuzz shrunk. It looks like every modification of the circuit to make if fit within a smaller enclosure led to a prototype (#000). You have the 1590BB one. In this one, the circuit was identical to the 1590DD model, but subsequent versions were slightly different.

Nick could not fit the 12 position rotary switch in smaller enclosures and some runs of smaller size pedals have a 6 position switch instead. When he eventually managed to fit the circuit in a 125B enclosure (between 2017 and Dec. 2019 when he stopped Dunwich), the rotary switch was replaced with a continuous pot (no positions anymore), at that point he also added a Blend.

Aesthetically, the wizard face was dropped went he built the pedal in anything smaller than the 1590BB size and was replaced with a wizard on a horse on the edge of a cliff.

The proto (#000) of the 125B size ones was on Reverb in Nov. last year:

Not that all this matters really, just a trip down memory lane... I like this builder, he was posting a lot here and had a lot of cool ideas!
This is correct. I don't have it written down anywhere but this sounds correct.
Also thanks for the kind words.

I still lurk here and there even in retirement.

Is it practical? I mean, easy to dial with? I want to grab a small exp pedal but I'm always doubtful about me (my feet) being able to work with it

That is the question, it is different that is for sure. I think for a expresion pedal I'd hate it. But this is a spring loaded wah which even in thr full size is its own beast... Also i need to try it with my board on the grownd  i have the board stacked on my other board with the lid on (space issues) one thing i am wondering about is mybe a riser under the heel to tip it forward to stablize it :idk: or maybe if i didnt have big feet... One thing that slightly bugs my is it makes a sweep noise if you move it without making a sound from your instrument like old wah pedals where my original doesnt do that, its quiet.

I'm not sure a raiser could help stabilizing it. I remember my main problem with the crybaby (I m talking about ages ago) was that I had to go with all my weight on it to engage itso a raiser would make it even harder, but I guess if your is spring loaded you won't have this problem. :idk:
That being said, your answer confirmed my doubts on small expression pedals :thumb:

i got the Weber California mounted in the 1x12 cabinet, and it is just heckin' wonderful. it goes with the little Hammond reverb chassis amp Charlie gave me like ham and swiss cheese. i have always liked JBL D120s, and this is about as near as dammit as one can find. dig it: my *supervisor at work* GAVE ME an amp head and a D120 clone just because he wasn't using them and thought i might.

tell you what, though: screwing in the nuts to install a speaker with a great honkin' magnet is a huge pain in the ass. every time you get the wrench in there it tries to leap out of your hand and have sexual congress with the voice coil.

 Try it with a 800w 18"
Weber makes great stuff, my guitarist used their blue dogs with open back cabs with Marshalls and got such a nice sound.

i'm scared by the *idea* of toting an 18" cabinet back and forth to the car.

Well no that part isn't fun. but that's called being a bassist... all the good cabs weigh a ton.. I had a light weight mesa cab once... it never sounded right and had a rattle I could find so I sold it and got a big heavy peavey thingy that was a pita to move around but the band liked it better :idk:

I've really been loving that one as a utility pedal. I made a giant board of dirt and had that as the start and the rest of the board in the loop and it was incredible to explore the different feedback of different dirts and have the dry blend. I'm surprised this pedal doesn't get more love. Matrise too. That thing is a game changer.
