Yeah but laquer vs poly would prevent oxygen getting into the finish more or less right? Aren't like the les paul silver tops the same before they became epiphones with poly (and way worse looking cause they kept the silver color). Went on bassesbyleo to check when the point where they added the preamp. didnt find it but tons of cool reading. g&ls are so cool!

I think they both would prevent oxidation, otherwise every old gold top would be entirely green. The laquer probably wears through the top coat easier thereby exposing the paint. Gold tops are always green only where they get the laquer worn down, which is also like my bass.

what's really cool about the G&L (other than the obvious) is the way that the finish wear looks like it's been processed through some kind of sparkle highlights filter. the lower bout on the top side looks like a starburst.

LtH- BEADGCF also playing with ADADGCF :idk:

it's making me use hand muscles I normally don't.. a 6 string bass isn't the same.. this is much more width..

Oh wow that thing goes HIGH. I was expecting it to go down to F or something because that's what I'd do

I know what you mean about the different hand muscles. I recently got a seven string guitar and it's a real trip, having never played one before. I realise a six then a seven string bass is another thing entirely but it's all relative

I have a ibanez sr406? that I have tuned with a low F# [this set https://kaliummusic.com/product/string- ... h2y353d3l/ ] and I used to have a 4 string tuned C#F#BE... it's fun for noise and making weird sounds but I've never gotten much usefulness out of subcontractors strings... maybe if I had octaveplus make me a flat or half round string.. things sound too much like bridge cables and move too much.. and I would want a longer scale... blah blah..

My reasoning for building this bass was... I needed something that I could play like a normal bass but also play things that sounded guitar. This does a good job, way more so "for me" than a bassvi because for me a bassvi with guitar string spacing doesn't cut it.. it feels too guitary and cramped... for half a minute I thought about making a 5 string tenor bass but then I would have to switch to something else if I wanted lower notes so no.. and I had the neck... the original idea was an 8 with different spacing for the high and low strings but finding a bridge or someone that would make one was.... not happening.. even finding a pickup and bridge for this was not easy... I lucked out finding the pickup used.. when I talked to bestbassgear they said because of the shutdown both bartolini and hipshot were massively backordered and no one knew when you could get anything...

lucky break! I am with you on the bass vi string spacing thing. I can see why you'd rather have this! The string spacing just makes it impossible to play the lower strings properly, for me. Personally I've decided to go the opposite direction and just keep my bass activities to 4 strings haha.

I’m committed to my 6 string Ibanez but the thought of a 7 is really intriguing.

I have debated stringing mine EADGCF rather than BEADGC as I’m more invested in the higher strings than the low b. I don’t know if it would require a separate setup though (I’m not good with that stuff) but might be really cool.

Anyway every time I see that bass here or on insta I die a little each time. It’s so cool.

Yes you would more than likely need a new nut.. IF you plan on keeping that way.. but if you want to just experiment for a bit you’d be fine. You will have to tweak the intonation a little too but again that can all be done down the road once you decide you want on the tuning you want to stick with. If we’re going the other way with a low f# this would be a issue.. I converted a 6 to have a low f# and you have to resize the nut and reintoneate the whole bass... going to a 7 isn’t terrible.. I find it easier to find my way around then on a 6 because I’ve been a 5 string player for so long and I locate where I am off the center string feel wise :idk: Ibanez does make a 7 version of your bass though :hobbes:
