I love the Unpleasant Surprise and the Randy. I love they’re Canadian. I love the aesthetic. I would love more but I hardly get to use the two I have as much as I want.

Love my Barbershop and Meet Maude.
Still gassing over Randy's revenge. The vibrato heard in the Knobs demo is gorgeous. But now there's the Shallow water... Has anyone compared the vibrato on both pedals? Are they similar in that respect?

Which two? Shallow and Maude? Randy's and Shallow?

Sorry. Shallow and Randy. They both offer great vibrato. I'm wondering how close they are, or how different they are, vibrato wise.

Completely different.
Randy on low frequncy settings does square wave or sine wave trem. It is always a little lofi, and absolutely lovely. So to be clear, it is just adjusting volume.

Shallow is random pitch modulation, and closer to more extreme Meet Maude but without the delay. The controls are hard to get used to, interact a lot and have quite some range that is "unreasonably subtle", but I have never heard a pedal get this close to the actual sound of a tape that's been left in the sun. As someone who grew up in the tape era in Australia this is a sound I am unfortunately very familiar with, but enjoy recreating with the distance of time (and other media for listening to music).

Thanks, that totally makes sense. Thanks for reminding me that Randy's, being a ring mod, is closer to a trem than a vibrato.
I have to give that Shallow water a try, to check whether it's on the good side of "dark", or too gooey-dark for me... in any case that pedal is really intriguing.

Has anyone had any time with the ~900? If so how is it and how does it compare to the Four Eyes? The Four Eyes is one of my favorite fuzzes but the ~900 seems sort of tamer? Maybe it's just the demos I've watched aren't the type of players to get wild with anything so they're not showcasing it properly. I miss when Fairfield made their own demo videos. They'd get weird with stuff in a good way.

I haven't played one, but Empros over at TGP said that ~900 seemed to "capture the lower gain excellence of the Four Eyes".

He also said:

"the ~900 from Fairfield. It's wicked and exactly what I was hoping it'd be. Right between Barbershop and Unpleasant Surprise in terms of gain/fuzz. It's got a wicked amount of texture, too. Love it."

and:

"It's so reactive to volume knob changes, cleans up great. Lots of shades of fuzz and textures in this one.

If you like the Barbershop / Unpleasant Surprise, you'll love this one. It's an awesome utility fuzz. It can be a dirty boost, overdrive, light fuzz, heavy fuzz... Everything. Stacks amazing with the Barbershop, too.

Unpleasant > 900 > Barbershop is basically all the gain staging I'd ever need."

Been looking an aaaawful lot at the Roger that. I LOVE the drive sounds I'm hearing in demos, and am usually not a drive guy at all! I love the idea of the noise side too, I'm just struggling to know if I'd end up using/be able to use it enough. Any comments on this? How difficult is it to dial in? CAN it be "set or forget"/is it possible to find a sound again? Also interested in the hors d'ouvre. I am lacking a proper feedback looper in my pile of pedals and tbh I like the sound of it even when it's not run through other too.
