Single Coils Vs Single Coil Sized humbuckers

Post by imJonWain »

I know they are different but Opinions or thoughts? I think I honestly prefer single coils but the noise drives my nuts especially playing at home since I live in a super noisey apartment.

What's your preference?

Depends on the sound you want? There are good options for both imo but they'll do somewhat different things. Thought about any of the "noiseless single coil" designs? Might do what you're after :idk:

Overall I prefer single coils for most things but not everything

I really like the Bill/Becky Lawrence noise free single coils. They are relatively cheap, too.

I like some bladed single coil size pickups, too, but they do sound more like hum buckers than these.

Yeah, I ended up switching back to the regular single coil pickup after all lol. I decided I like it enough sound wise I'll work around the hum.

I've wanted to try out the bill & becky Wilde pickups. I had a guitar with an old Bill Lawrence HB pu in it that I really liked.

the GFS (Barden style) dual blade pickups (unfortunately named "Lil Puncher") are shockingly good. i have one of these in the neck of my Tele & it totally hangs with the TV Jones pickup in the bridge that cost like 4X as much. they make them in Strat sized, too.

I had some DiMarzio Virtual Vintage and I think they sounded way more like singles than they did humbuckers, but they didn't sound as much like a single as coilsplitting a humbucker. But I hate singles most of the time so I'm not sure how valid my opinion is.
