+1 the DI out on those Digitechs is awesome. I recall DRolo had some old boss pratice amp thing that had a speaker sim tooD.o.S. wrote:Something to keep in mind is that if you're using the DI out on the Death Metal it will already have a cab sim on it that you can't turn off.fcknoise wrote:Do you have any suggestions for speaker impulse responses? I have plebbed my way through everything in the built in Logic amp/speaker VST, and it all sounds like garbage

I had one and it's OK in a pinch, but not amazing. Considering the time period and what was available, and how much they cost now though... amazing

I always go direct most of the time!
Core my pedalboard is this AMT SS20 valve preamp which has a cabinet emulation out. After that I use a Strymon Timeline for delays and a Line6 HX Stomp or a Zoom MS70CDR for reverbs and "special efx" (and after the Strymon I go stereo).
Cool thing: the AMT has 2 outputs, with and without cabinet emulation, so after it I have an AB-box so that depending on my needs, I can adapt my board without re-wiring the routing (like I go into a guitar amp or I use my board with synthesizers > no cab emu out).
I did also some stand-alone experiments with the HX Stomp and also here there's a lot of potential!

Was using the HX Stomp as my bass amp for awhile and it sounded great, had no problems with it. Was also using the Strymon Iridium as a guitar amp and as a pedal platform, it works well.gila_crisis wrote:I did also some stand-alone experiments with the HX Stomp and also here there's a lot of potential!
Have also been using Softube Amp Room lately and they have really improved if from a few years ago. Been using the AC30 and Dual Tremolo (Fender Blackface) sims lately and impressed by them.
Am keeping a couple amps though. Still something to be said for plugging into one direct and just letting go. But for the complicated setup I am now pursuing, the less cables and the less of anything, the better, (I am finding out the difficult way).
