I dont think it sounds like an upright at all. It has an electrified midrange to it. I googled S.D. Curlee and they fit with what I hear. Dimarzio P-pickup close to the bridge

Don't give up so easily! :snax:

You could always try making the bass sound synthyier.

Envelope filter and something before it to increase the sustain might get you on the path. As well as some type of modulation after. :idk:

I think it could be doubled with the Oberheim, but if so it's lower in the mix than the electric fretless bass with chorus on it. Maybe they added it to carry the sustain of the long notes and add some sub frequencies. The mwahhh envelope and midrange muscle is very characteristic of a fretless bass, and you can really hear him dig into the strings at some moments in with enough amplitude to completely mask whatever synth might be happening underneath. He doesn't really do glissandos, which would make it easier to replicate on a regular electric bass if you don't have a fretless. Play close to the neck with your picking/plucking hand, use a small amount of vibrato with your fretting/fingering hand. I've also had some success with an envelope filter set very carefully. The chorus seems simple, just set slow and a little deep.

Good info! ^^^

I still think there's too much sustain there to be just the bass guitar in the envelope parts. :idk:

(I will be glad if we figure this out before the end of 2022. )

Yeah, still could be a synth underneath to add sustain, especially because I'm not hearing an Oberheim elsewhere. Otherwise it would have to be lots of compression, slow attack with long release.

That's what it sounds like to me. Whether it's a synth or a bass guitar I can't tell. I think they're playin' off each other nicely. :thumb:

I've got a compressor that I always have on, I already play over the neck pickup n I mix some of the under saddle pickup for a pseudo upright tone

is the envelope filter for the slight vibrato? I suck at doin vibrato

any envelope filter n chorus recommendations?

It’s sorta the other way round, chorus adds the pitch movement (the reason it’s is used a fret less a lot is it masked bad intonation a bit by making everything sound soupy) envelope filter in its simplest form is like a auto wah.. things are all so different and persnickety things that respond to your playing and your instrument you need to listen to demos and then hope the one you pick likes your bass.. I’ve maybe owned 8 of the things..

The angel on my shoulder wants to tell you to intonate your bass. The devil on my shoulder wants you to lean into pitch chaos. What kinda bass you got?

62 supro pocket bass, it's my baby

it's strung up lefty but I flipped the bridge n nut around ( someday I'm gonna have holes drilled on the other side for the knobs n jack)

I've thought about takin it in to a shop or somethin, but I can never find the cash n don't wanna be bass-less for a couple weeks hah

I've also heard because of the short scale n heavy strings you need to put on intonation will always be slightly off
