Okay, but what about a *fun* overdrive pedal?

I don’t play guitar at all so my opinion is only based on aesthetics but I think a quality OD should be yellow. Like the 250+, the DOD or a Boss.

I think that Wren & Cuff 25v OD is really cool looking. Pricey, but yellow.

The Singing Ringing Tree (German: Das singende, klingende Bäumchen) is a 1957 children's fantasy film from East German studio DEFA. Directed by Francesco Stefani, the screenplay by Anne Geelhaar is based on a variation of "Hurleburlebutz" by the Brothers Grimm.[1][2]

The story concerns a beautiful but selfish and haughty princess who rejects the proposal of a wealthy prince.[3] She scorns the gifts he offers her, and says that she will marry him only if he brings her the mythical "singing ringing tree". The prince locates the tree in the territory of an evil dwarf, who offers to give him the enchanted tree, on the understanding that, if the princess still rejects him, he will be in the dwarf's power and will be turned into a bear. Because the tree will only sing and ring when the princess falls in love with the prince, she is disappointed in it and continues to reject the prince. The prince is forced to return to the dwarf's lair and is turned into a bear.

The princess sends her father to find the singing ringing tree for her, but he is met by the prince, in the guise of a bear, who gives him the tree on condition that the king returns with the first thing the king sees on his return. This turns out to be the princess, who is now delivered into the hands of the dwarf. The dwarf, seeing the princess's self-centred behaviour, casts a spell to make her ugly. The bear tells her that she will regain her beauty only if she changes her ways. Gradually she is won over by the bear and becomes beautiful again. Despite the dwarf's attempts to keep her and the prince apart, she eventually falls in love with him and the singing ringing tree finally lives up to its name.
Could cross a Singing Tree with some kind of ring mod? :snax:
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

If you want cheap then get the Mosky gold klone. It was like 200kr on Amazon and it is one of my favourite pedals.

solid - @ current kr/usd exchange rates works out to be almost exactly 1 MZU - price on US Amazon right now is more like 1.36 MZU - still negligible even given the relative lack of eq :trippy:

:omg:

Even more good suggestions in here! Of the Boss stuff, I guess I'll go to a store and check them out. As far as I have learned from skimming extremely boring threads on cork sniffer fora, the OD-3 is actually more of an update on the BD-2, whereas the OD-2r is its own thing. Fun. Will check out a 250 as well. While I do realize that yellow is in fact the colour of overdrive, I am tempted to buy spray paint as well if I go that route.

Building a Singing Tree might actually be a fun project, so I'll definitely look into that. What's the worst that could happen? :flame:

As for the Mosky, I'm not a fan of mini pedals if it's something I'll turn on and off often, but I do value raptorman's opinions, so I'll check it out.

I'd send it to you to try, but it'll cost more to post it than for you to buy a new one.

Fwiw it's really well built, and the pcbs are stacked in there. I am ok with simple rehouses but I wouldn't want to try and rehouse that.

I wouldnt call the OD-3 an upgrade on the BD-2. It is as similar to the OD-2 as it is to the BD-2

Dave Grohl does not use an overdrive pedal

Ok, so after having watched some very boring demos: All the Bosses seem like they would do, but I seem to prefer the subtle differences found in the OD-2r/Od-3. They have a certain bite or whatever. The BD-2 appears slightly more smooth and bassy, and gets almost fuzzy with the gain up, which is nice, but not exactly what I'm looking for - would definitely do the job if it was my only option, though. Also heard the SD-1 in one of the vids, which seemed more glassy or something. Thought the ODs had a bit more of what I wanted.

Rats with gain at like 9 o' clock sounded excellent, but has a grind to it with gain further up which is not really my thing. The Singing Tree also has more bass and fuzz than I'd like from the not-very-good demos I found. Finally, the 250 sounded good, so that might also do the trick.

There's probably some technical reason for all of this. It also felt very boring and subtle. The smell of cork is firmly embedded in my nostrils. Guess I'll duck around with Wolf Computer/volume knob and see if it does the trick well enough for me to not have to think about this.

If you like the 250 flavor, maybe see if you can find a cheap DOD Boneshaker. The eq flexibility (and that the eq can get a bit dirty) makes it hard to nail down—it doesn’t just have one sound. But this also makes it easier to fit in a rig.

lol I was googling for distortion pedals and completely forgot that I have a boneshaker until you reminded me. Don't do drugs.

Not cheap... but hey...

Mid-Fi makes the best overdrive pedals...

-Magick "i" is my favorite
-Full Frequency Overdrive is a very good transparent od
-Overdrive (discontinued) was great when I had one

Maybe you can find a used one

Or maybe a Maxon Overdrive would do it for you.
