Zvex Double Rock alternatives?

Post by frigid midget »

I'm kinda in a dad rock project, hence the TGP'ish content.

Instead of using two Boxes of Rock, I wanted to free up some much needed board space.

Anything else out there that does a similarly good double MIAB thing in a compact form? The DR cost more than I wanna spend on a f*cking overdrive pedal.
I'm guessing it's not an easy diy clone project, even if I went with a slightly larger enclosure.

Can't say anyone makes an extremely similar box for the price/size, but you could always buy two of the mini $25 MIAB-style pedals (Tomsline, Caline, or whatever) and place them as close together as possible?

On the other hand, if you really need all the features that an actual Double Rock offers (too many to clone!), this used one doesn't seem to steep at the moment :hobbes:

Yeah, the thing is that I decided that the Zvex Distortron is THE overdrive for me. I just did another little test drive though, with new competition. And my Distortron didn't come out on top this time.
Still a gnarly miab, but way darker sounding than similar pedals that are more jcm-voiced rather than jtm.

yeah this is a pretty good price. You're paying like 100 bucks a overdrive

Catalinbread DLS III? Usually around $100. Internal switch for superlead/superbass.

Edit: doesn't do the 2n1 thing like Double Rock

I guess the extra board space isn't something that's worth too much extra monies for me, and having two completely different flavours of dirt isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I had a DLS ages ago, from what I remember it didn't have nearly as much gain as a BOR/Distortron. Again, that was a long time ago, probably the V1 DLS, so I never tried a V3 side by side with a bor or anything.

Doesn't really matter anymore anyway, I kinda settled on something else. For now at least, cause I might also build me an Angry Charlie clone somewhere along the way.
