Made a big pot of chickpeas for scratch that I ate with rice and hot sauce. I might make a hummus with the leftovers, though I don't really want to buy or make tahini. Will I be shamed by the entire Levant if I sub with natural peanut butter (just smooth peanuts and salt)?
It was chilly yesterday so I picked up some ribs and braised them in a tomato-vegetable broth. Made my home smell and feel warm and good. It's much warmer today, and I'm glad I have leftovers. Maybe some tacos guisados?
I’ve made hummus without tahini before and survived. I think it’s mainly for texture/mouth feel. More important to have fresh garlic and fresh lemon juice IMO.
I made Dan Dan Noodles with ginger/garlic/scallion minced pork, pickled mustard greens, topped with freshly crushed szechuan peppercorns, coriander and chili-preserved black beans. It was one of the better meals I've had in a while.
I also made this no-bake strawberry and lime cheese cake a while back, which was really nice
Apple pie made tonight. Rum raisin ice cream made over the weekend to go with it.
Deviled eggs are already made to go with mimosas as we cook in the morning. A lot of our veggie prep is done already for the main event. Roasted a head of garlic for the mashed potatoes instead of my normal trick of boiling and mashing whole garlic cloves with the potatoes.
