Alternative to Guyatone TZ2?
I wish I hadn't sold mine as they are going for over 2 bills now. I honestly don't know much about fuzzes so there have to be pedals out there with the same circuit, right? Part of the reason I sold it is it seemed to be quieter on than off, but that was when I didn't understand gain staging and pedal sequence, so I'd like to give it a crack again but I'd like to know if I can get something with the same sound and better build/ better output.

It’s in the Super Fuzz family with opamp I/O buffers and electronic bypass switching.

Yep. Great super fuzz. I sold it then quickly realized that mistake and bought another a year later. It was beat to hell but i didnt care bacause the rubber seal was still good.
You can also go the route of a BYOC Leeds fuzz which is pretty true to the original SF.
General guitar gadgets also makes a good kit.

Great answers guys.
If this doesn't cover it maybe drop Jero a line. He knows about all the Guyatones.

if you check on freestompboxes.org there's also a schematic available, and I think also a vero layout to clone it.

Thanks for all the info, fuzz nuts! So I'm basically looking for a super fuzz, possibly with an op-amp wrapper according to the freestompboxes thread. I don't know what that is but it sounds cool

Buffers. It’s just the standard Boss/Ibanez type stuff, so no true bypass and less possibility of weird bad (or good) interactions from coupling with circuits before or after.
The cheap way to try to scratch the itch is the Behringer SuperFuzz, a near clone of Boss’s FZ-2, also a SuperFuzz derivative.
