Gain replicants...?

Post by Seance »

OK.

So I have an old Tascam recording. At the time, whenever I was trying to work out a song I'd just hit record and
try to put the parts down in an improvised way (overlaying a track or two as time/impulse dictated).

I was borrowing the Tascam 4-track recorder, so my subsequent digitizing only got two out of four tracks.

So. What pedal would blend or span the sound of the Tascam input getting overdriven from this first recording
and the Basic Audio Gnarly fuzz pedal that I used for this more recent revisitation of the same song?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My fiscal pickle doesn't allow for acting on recommendations, but I
have the ability to store ideas for some future hopeful day when that fiscal pickle gets sliced a different way.

First thoughts: Maybe EAE Model Fet? It seems to have a texture at various spectrums of mid/bass/treble that
could perhaps cover the prospective shades of gain?

Tascam version (from 1991):

BA Gnarly version (from around 2017 maybe?):

This clip includes guitar noodles from 1991 Tascam (panning) also with lots of other stuff re-recorded off of VHS tapes that
I originally recorded in the mid-to-late 1980s. At the time I would just flip around the cable dial and record
onto VHS random stuff I came across (which is where the spooky piano part came from (the visuals were even
more spooky: an old, disheveled guy drinking from a bottle of hooch applying lipstick to a seemingly catatonic
young woman as the camera swirled around the pair in a 360-shot that lasted the length of the spooky piano).

I also recently hand-painted and scratch-animated a roll of Super8 film that I shot in 1997 for a film I made
called Generation Loss.

Any gain pedal recommendations?

It sounds like you might be looking for the Demo Tape Fuzz. https://www.midfielectronics.com/demo-tape-fuzz

You might be right.

There are several Mid-Fi pedals that are of interest to me. I've never played one in person though.
