Analog delay with random modulation and noise

I miss my No Memory and have for a long time. I assumed there would've been a production run version at this point and now 5 or so years later the opposite has happened.

It wasn't complex but I loved what I did with it



I really want a delay that pushes the chip into that white noise territory and as I've not seen any envelopes on any since, I'd like some random modulation.

Is there anything? I just saw Sending v2 and that checked most the boxes but it's way more than I can afford.

I’d look for a digitally controlled analog delay where you can access the delay time through MIDI CC (continuous control) or get something with expression control of time and get some kind of expression ramper device that’ll output a random waveform. But for reasons you might want this type of access to the modulation rate and/or depth instead.

From my experience, I will say that sometimes random is a lot more random than you really want as applied to time, so random within a more limited range of values might be more the thing. Or modulating the modulation. Thus rate/depth control access.

The external devices I have are out of production (Source Audio Vortex and Cooper FX Expression Generator) so while I love them, I would look into currently available alternatives instead.

I used to keep afloat of what was happening and let that go awhile back so as I get back in there's products I'm unaware of currently. It really did explode beyond the explosion and it's blowing my mind. It's also wild how slow this space is considering how big the pedal world has gotten.

Dozens of delays are using the PT2399, just like the No Memory (Space Spiral, Disaster Transport, Karman Line, Moby Dick, The Wash, Megabyte). That was the karaoke chip of the 80s/90s.

If you want grit, you might try a Rubberneck with a modulation pedal in the FX loop. (ex: Intensive Audio Fideleater, Caroline Somersault) I like to put other delays in the FX loop, too. (Catalinbread Csidman, Dwarfcraft Grazer) An oscillating reverb would also work well at keeping things on the edge of chaos.

It's also wild how slow this space is considering how big the pedal world has gotten.

It would seem barring a miracle, this place is headed to becoming a digital ghost town. Too many people are in dad/career mode, and the people who would've replaced them are all on Reddit & Discord.

Yeah, No Memory wasn't analog but nobody else has used the pt2399 quite the same. I tried the Copilot Kinkilin, which gets close but doesn't have the delay time.
Chase Bliss Thermae is analog and it lets you overclock the delay time with some fuckery. It gets pretty gritty and weird and it can do a nice modulation but I'm not sure if it can do both at the same time.

I did a straight trade for a EQD Avalanche Run....I cannot believe how much I regret that these days. Not the price but just having that delay after going through so many.

I'm not looking for grit as much as aliasing and I'm not looking to buy two pedals because that'll get closer to the cost of Sending.

I was looking at Taken for awhile. It seems to be the best option from what I'm looking for, although Echo Degrader might be something I need to look into as well. Sounds like it does exactly what I want.

Rubberneck or Taken with a cheapo aliaser or sample rate reducer in the loop could be good.

I think Taken alone may suffice. i think it gets that white noise sheen. I'm not trying to get two pedals because it would be close to the cost of Sending.
