that whole thread was people talking about using DAWs because they're too lazy to scroll on a piece of hardware. i understand because it's a huge pain in the ass, but sometimes you have to do stuff you don't want to do to get a result.

Oooof, that Jeff Mills video both reignites my RE909 gas and inspires me to just throw in the fucking towel. HAHAHA

For decent acoustic sounds and the ability to compose songs I would not overlook any of the stand alone Akai MPCs. Load in what you want, run around with a microphone, have a blast.

I agree that the HR16 sounds better than the SR16, and the ability to tune the sounds deeper or higher by a factor of 2 makes for a great industrial machine, plus the converters are a bit more raw sounding to me ears. There are dry sounds on the SR16 as well, but over all it seems Alesis steered the SR into a tighter window of "realism" and user friendliness than what the HR offers. I prefer the HR, but for live stuff I'd be more comfortable tossing the SR into the car. Neither machine is going to trick many into thinking it's an actual drummer.

Hey Jerry, it's an SR-16 clone, but it was sold with a set of external drum pads, and features external triggers for the whole kit.

This one is $99 with the brain & the pads, in serviceable condish :::crackersgif:::

I had previously thought the ion company was part of of the inMusic buyout of Alesis, but I guess that happened in 2010 (and hence, the Miniak, which was a dupe of the Alesis Micron......sort of).

Supposedly the SR-18 lets you remove the effects. Plus a low-pass filter and a decay control which might be fun.

If it wasn't for the fact that I hate programming or navigating anything roland with a screen I would invest in an R8. The rolls and accents are so much fun to incorporate into beats.
