egg-zack-lee. I'm not going to spend three hundy on a grab bag for instagram addicts.
It's a good idea for liquidating dead inventory. I bet we see some good prices on used CB pedals because of this.

I rolled the dice on a mystery box. Sorry, soy boyz. YOLO.

Worst case: get a pedal I already own (Dark World, Thermae) and flip it.
Best case: get a CXM reverb, $800 custom bundle/prototype pedal, golden ticket ($4,000 in future pedals?)

Fair. CBA has probably talked to Wren and Cuff, who have the much lower-threshold mystery pedal sale that they started what, just last year? https://www.wrenandcuff.com/products/mystery-pedal That seems to have worked for them, but it's pretty clearly a discount in every case for them, so pretty good if the grab bag works for you because there is space to flip if you don't like it. Then again, I think the whinge I've seen on a TGP thread is pretty ridiculously entitled--"How dare you charge me more than the used price for a pedal!" My dood, you are complaining about the basic market conditions for buying a new pedal.

The value proposition is a bit better for some of us internationally. But they're also running a sale if you've got your eye on something.
You've even got right of return in the EU.
Only CB I have is a Mood mk1, and I wouldn't mind a crack at any of the current lineup on https://www.chasebliss.au/pedals, so I took the punt. Seems like good fun.

Re: <<24>> is the magick number
There aren't many pedals I'd want from their lineup. As it is there's only a 20% I'd get something I'd want. If that was closer to 85% (or 300/350), then I'd pick up a mystery box.

Re: <<24>> is the magick number
i just went through everything on their page, and the Gen Loss (which just arrived) is the only thing that interests me. i feel like CB tends to focus on vast feature sets but often the basic sounds aren't great, or perhaps i should say don't sound good to me. it's like when i had the Rickenbacker 360...i could hear how the guitar needed to be played to get the sounds i liked, but i would have had to change the way i play so much that it wasn't practical.

Is the Gravity Well the GOAT of dirty trems?
It's got a random LFO setting (8 total shapes) + wavefolder distortion, so it can do a variety of unique choked/gated throbs.

Jumping around this longer demo, you can preview a lot of synth-esque rhythms.

Re: <<24>> is the magick number
I don't know. I would definitely like to try a Blooper, Habit, Mood (I or II), Thermae, Onward, Generation Loss, Reverse Mode C.
But the Blooper in particular seems so deep that a MIDI device to access features feels like a necessity.
And at that point I'd probably just go for a Looperlative LP-2, which also seems like it would benefit from
MIDI device control, but at least has lots of buttons on top for real-time, during performance manipulation.
The Habit would be of interest for the "happy accident" potential that would likely unfold over time during
a live improv soundtrack for one of my animations (most of which are longer than 3 minutes but mostly
divisible by that increment and so that random unsynced kitchen-sink approach might yield interesting results).

Color me intrigued!! This sort of stuff is part of what's drawn me to modular. I love the way picking dynamics seem to affect the signal. I'm really curious about what that would sound like. A lot of those demos seemed to focus heavily on the high gain settings, but I'm more curious about the edge-of-folding tones where it starts to fold when you push it. This seems like a pedal that could go on my board, honestly.

Re: <<24>> is the magick number
PedalPCB has done the teardown on their forum (https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/hell ... ge-3#posts -- login required ) and the HKF is verbatim the same as the Hammertone but without the octave switch or circuit components. You can't just add your own switch and have it do octave fuzz--you would need to add the surface mount components, too. Cheap bastards did decide to save a few cents in components a pedal.Gone Fission wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:17 am Someone posted a shot inside the HKF with the backplate off at TGP. There’s solder pads for a through hole toggle switch that are bridged to a fix setting. My guess is it’s at least the same basics as the Hammertone Fuzz. Might even be populated for the octave circuit—probably not cost effective to differentiate the pick-and-place smd board populating process.
Will go back to listening to Hammertone Fuzz demos.
Also reported that the Hammertone Fuzz (and by extension the HKF) are relatives of Fender's fancier line Pelt fuzz. The Pelt and Trapper, which likely is also in the family, get occasional favorable comment but seem to mostly fly under the radar.
