Is this possible? Expression and volume in one...

Post by I Am Chris »

I know toneczar has modded VP JR's that work as expressions, but I need a VP JR to function as both... volume for my signal, and expression for a different effect.

Is this possible? Does someone already make one? Any idea how to do it?

It should be easy as pie, but I don't know where to get parts. An expression pedal is just a pot that is turned vie the rocker mechanism.

Is there room to place a switch and another output jack?

If you did that one jack could connect to the expression, and the other to standard input.
Putting a switch in would switch between them.
Or you could run both at the same time if thats what you had in mind.

I want to run them individually (one mode acts exactly as a volume pedal, hit a switch, flips over to control the expression of my hog).

i assume i could take the "tuner out" on the VP JR and use it for the expression. don't have room for a switch on the VP, but I think a small external single switch box would do the trick.

one of my concerns is... when i switch over to the expression side, what happens to my volume? is it left at the volume it was before I switched? or when it bypasses, will it be just my amp volume.

also, can anyone give me a more in depth explanation on how i make this work?

It's cool to know how these things work. But if you start to get frustrated, I'm 99% certain that there's at least one pedal out on the market which does this (I just can't recall which one right now). I think it might be either the Behringer FCV100 or the Yamaha FC9. Let'cha know when I figure it out.

i've come to the conclusion that it can't work.

i need the volume from the rocker pot. using one rocker, for two pots, and keeping the volume pot volume can't be done.

Okay, the Behringer FCV100 can control both volume and expression simultaneously.

When in "CV" mode, Input/Output 1 acts as a straight mono volume pedal, while Output 2 is switched to be an expression pedal out.

If you want to switch off the volume control while still using the expression pedal function, just put the pedal in a true bypass loop. Doing the opposite -- using it only as a volume pedal while turning off the expression pedal function -- might be as simple as reaching down and changing the pedal mode from "CV" to "NORM".
