Project Jazzmaster

Post by elbandito »

So a bunch of you guys already know that I build guitars and I've spoken to a couple of you about custom builds. I figured I'd share a few pics of a guitar that I'm making for a guy right now, as I just got out of the woodshop and decided to take some pics. This build is a replica of a 1965 Jazzmaster. Today, I did the cavity routing and the main body cutting. Tonight, I'm gonna sand down the sides so they're smooth and start on the arm and belly contours and tomorrow will be the neck pocket, pickup cavities and edges. It's a two piece basswood body, like the 90's and current run Jags and JMs.

Thanks man. That line won't be visible once it's done. I've got a lot of sanding to do still. :whateva:

Edging done, contours drawn on and a little mistake in teh pickup cavities...
And still, I've got an assload of sanding to do. I think I'll break out the palm sander so's I can whip thru it quickly.

I've always wanted a Jag/Jazzy without the arm and belly contours.

I'd sure like to not have to do the contours... I love the sexy curves of the guitar when it's finished but I dislike having to sit there with a rasp, drawknife and sandpaper for hours doing it. That's why I love building Telecasters, as a matter of fact. Cut the fucker out, sand it down and you're done!

yeah actually! i did that to a CV Tele when I was living in MTL and then sold it on craigslist a few weeks later. Looks badass but I love the simplicity of the basic telecaster. In fact, the Esquire is my all time fave version. Gimme one, nice pickup in teh bridge and call it a day. :thumb:

nope, but i'd love to try! I've got a Jaguar template sitting around that I traced from my '62... you looking for a new guitar, nbabmf? :poke:

My JM and Mustang ones were sent to me from a guy that I know that worked for Fender in Cali for a while. He builds guitars too and is a very meticulous son-of-a-bitch, so I know they're good. My Jag and Tele ones, I made myself by measuring and tracing guitars that I own/owned. Jrmy also sent me a tracing for a Rickenbacker bass a while back. I gotta go buy some MDF and make templates for that soon.

Which ones for sale suck? For sale by whom? They can't all suck.
