LAL Pedals?

Has anyone played any of the LAL stuff from Japan?

I've been offered a modulting/oscillation fuzz in a trade but I'm not sure if I should do it. It has 2 CV controls and looks like it could be fun but the clips sound close to the DF which I already use. I think I'm leaning towards it more because it's discontinued then for usability.

I would do it, that thing always appealed to me personally. But like you said it's discontinued so you can always flip it if you don't like it. (And I imagine it + DF to sound pretty damn coo )

ive never tried myself but ive always wanted some LAL. shit is seems like it would be sick.

I've had their model Hachijuhachi (88) fuzz for over a year now, and I can say that it is truly one sick puppy. Gated fuzz, sustained fuzz, velcro, octave up, octave down, self-oscillation, almost anything you want out of the darn thing.

Biggest downside is that it is a complete wildcard; it's totally sensitive to your entire signal chain. Behaves entirely differently if it's the first or last (or anything in-between) pedal in your chain. Also, different guitars are night and day with the way it reacts. The only way to really use it is to settle on a configuration, then lastly insert in the 88. That's the only method to get any predictability. I've had to start over again so many times it's not funny.

Otherwise, the sound is brilliant... just brilliant.

Oh, one other thing that you might want to consider: I *really* do not like the paint finish that LAL uses. This pedal looked beautiful out of the box, but is the most scuff- and scratch-prone pedal I've ever seen. I baby my pedals like crazy, and still it now looks like crap after only a year of use.

If you're looking at getting that pedal only for "collector's value", then be prepared to keep it in a box for its entire life. If the finish is anything like mine and you play it, it'll lose all its value due to the appearance going to hell fast.

AHH! I've been going back and forth between that and the Subdecay Prometheus for a while now. Does it really keep the lows? (I play teh bass)

It's got a frequency selector knob that goes lower (almost) than I can hear.

So I'd say "yes."

It got here today, I deleted my other update with the evil plan

Only had a couple minutes with it at lunch. Pretty good normal fuzz sound - more fuzz face than muff. One switch for oscillation (tamer than the DF) and one switch the modulates the oscillation and makes it sound like a siren.

Obvs. I need to play it more but right now I'm not sure I'll end up keeping it.
