Overdrives
Just wondering what overdrive pedals everyone likes out there, I'm looking to get something, so I wanted to see who likes what.

Re: Overdrives
I use an Ibanez TS-5 Tube Screamer, which I modded with a 4558p chip and new caps. Very smooth...
Shoegazer, motherfucker!

Re: Overdrives
I use a Mellowtone Singing Tree Overdrive. can be used as a clean boost all the way to some medium distortion sounds. Very versatile.

Right now I'm using a Catalinbread Hyper Pak. Not as versatile as some, but really usable and does what I need it too

Re: Overdrives
Tim for low to some medium gain. eq controls really help tailor your sound.
Haven't played much with the loop but the boost side is amazing for pushing it into the medium gain territory.
Probably earning a permanent place on my board. Believe the hype. Screw dano.
Only change I'd want is the mod for an external switch for assymetrical clipping (timmy does it already w/ internal dipswitches, custom order on Tim)
Catalinbread SCOD for medium-high.
is all I have to say.
Gasing hard for skreddy screwdriver.

HAO Rumble Mod
Himmelstrutz Elektro Art Fetto Standard
SIB Vari Drive
old Marshall Guv'nor (the one with the FX loop)
Tech 21 XXL
the XXL is a very underrated pedal IMO.

Re: Overdrives
elwood is correct. The Tech 21 XXL is pretty awesome.
I haven't had a chance to play one myself, but my bandmate has one. It has really good harmonically rich overdrive tones.
I use either a MXR Micro Amp (which is technically a boost, but does awesome overdrive), and a DBA Interstellar Overdriver. Both add a lot of low-end color, but sound like tube amps on the brink of exploding. Double the beef.

Re: Overdrives
Any overdrives that folks would suggest specifically for bass? My board is fuzz-heavy right now, and there's nothing for more medium-grain grit...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Fulltone Bassdrive gets a lot of good reviews. I personally use the EHX Germanium OD, which I like but its definitely a niche OD and not for everyone. Its very vintage-y

Re: Overdrives
Interesting... I tried the EHX, but was afraid that it would be too treble-punchy for me, since I'm pretty trebly to begin with. I'm thinking of something that might emphasize more mids and give a bit of dirt. Might have to check out the Bassdrive.

If you want mids, then you want a tubescreamer, or a derivative of it (of which the Bassdrive is one). The voodoo lab sparkle drive is another modified tubescreamer, and it has a clean blend, which bassists usually love

Re: Overdrives
I have an old Vox Valve Tone and it's pretty bad ass, it behaves just like a tube amp!
XXL is also cool, but it's an High gain overdrive, can't really get low gin distrtions from it but IT' S GREAT ON BASS!
JRMY if you want more mids try the Karaoke Party, I love it on the bass!

Re: Overdrives
Wylde od won't get you zakk's sound unless you are playing through a nice modded marshall stack and a les paul loaded with emg 81/85's. Otherwise its a so-so od. Just sayin. I'm a huge fan of his, but that pedal is sorta just capitalizing on his name.
Catalinbread silverkiss or hyperpak always seemed appealing to me, but I'm really happy with my Tim for light stuff and SCOD for the heavy at the moment. Besides fuzz, which I'll just keep collecting, I try not to have more than two of any type of effect.
+1 for barber stuff as well. David Barber is a class act...I think he was even giving away schems for one of his pedals around the holidays.

Re: Overdrives
I own several so I'll list them
Owen Gremlin bass overdrive, pricey but great versatility my main od.
may just get the Bass Bomb Driver when I'm feeling rich.
http://www.owenelectronics.co.uk/9939.html
Subdecay Stupid Box, nice mild light od ok with bas but does loose a bit of the low end.
http://www.subdecay.com/sb.htm
Jacques Tube Blower, most versatile of the TS-808/TS-9 clones out there. has seperate bass and treble controls, and the drive range is extended way past that of a stock TS.
Great with bass.
http://www.jacquespedals.com/index.php? ... tubeblower
Taxi Driver, light mild overdrive. a bit bright by itself, really needs a blend to work with bass.
Old Blue Tube, I put in an nos 12AU7 and it pretty much stays on all the time any more
use it more as a boost than od though.
I would like to check out a couple by MI Audio, the Blue Boy deluxe and Tube Zone, because his fuzzez work great with bass, pump out tons of low end.

I'd also like to check out Dave Hall's pedals, but I'd have to order one, and of course I like the clips of the most expensive one.

I tried a Fulltone and to me it was just ok, But I also don't like the Sansamp
