glitchy beat repeat-esque hardware???

Post by Dr. Sherman Sticks M.D. »

hey just wondering if you guys know of any hardware that does glitchy repeats similar to ableton live's beat repeat effect, among other programs/plugins.

so far my research has uncovered:

roland sp's

glitchDS, which requires a nintendo DS
as well as repeaterDS, same deal

someone told me the kaoss pad has something like this.

even if you know of a really dope plugin or software.
id be interested in atleast checkin it out

but mostly just interested in hardware
thanks yall!!

edit: one term i found while searching the internet was "cellular automation" and something about "the game of life"

This. I use the hold function all the time. The only downsides: My DD-3 tends to color the repeats, and I can never get it fast enough.

EDIT: If you use a DD-3, plug a patch cable into the Dir. Out and it mutes incoming audio with the delay is activated... DD-3's can do some pretty cool shit in feedback loops if you take the Dir. Out and feed it back to the first pedal in your chain, if anyone's interested!

I think one of the Kaoss Pads are your best bet.

The best software solution is probably dblue's "Glitch" VST... I use that one a whole lot. the Smoky Joe VST can do some cool stuff, too, and you can make it do similar effects.

I had difficulty making Smoky Joe work when I installed it on my new computer, and it turns out some file was missing from the D/L since the first time I installed it, but I got it working after digging up the missing file from my VST folders on my old machine, and if you have the same problem, I can send you the file...

This also works with a Digidelay. It's an unstoppable feedback loop.

awesomeee thanks everyone for the ideas....i knew yall would have some shit that i didnt think of! :bob: thats why i keep comin back.

i never owned a boss delay (which is actually kind of insane considering i own like 10 delay pedals and have had my hands on prolly like 20 in the last few years, gunna try to borrow one from a friend and try that out. can you manipulate the delay time and shit whilst in hold mode??
i would have it on a tabletop so the bending over thing doesnt bother me since im not really a guitar player.

the direct out/feedback loop thing sounds awesome too! i never fuckin thought to try that out...you guys are so smart. would prolly sound sick in my crazy chain of devi fuzz oscillating noise because i have no input signal anyway.

the teaspoon looks fuckin unreaaaaalllllllll...pretty much all squarewave parade devices do for that matter...and reasonable priced if you can get your mitts on one. it looks like hes planning a new type of teaspoon. really wanna see what thats all about.
i really wanted a downgrade for awhile. dude is nuts and his rants are hilarious, seems like a great guy.

i coulnd't really find too much info about smokey joe since a lot of things are apparently named smokey joe in this world, but i did find some basic shit.
glitch looks crazzzzzzyyyyy way more flexible than abletons beat repeat which is pretty limited in functions but still pretty cool.
i wish they made something like glitch in a hardware type shit...i think my brain would explode from trying to fathom that tho.

ummm has anybody tried the zvex lofi loop junky?? is it just a straight up looper?? or would u be able to glitch it out?? im not really a fan of zvex. shit is overpriced. but curious nonetheless.

THANKS AGAIN!!!! :omg: :omg: :omg:

You can manipulate the delay time while holding. This and the ability to oscillate is the only use I have for Boss delays, whenever I play a chord it always captures the "Chk" of the higher strings. :grumpy:

The Lo-Fi Loop Junky doesn't glitch, it has a vibrato feature that you can control the level of, it's supposed to sound like a warped record.
