Anybody here have tried the Eastwood Airline '59 Custom 3p?


I have some questions...

-Pickups... high output single coil... are they P90? How they sound?
-How is the neck... thin or fat?
-Is the guitar stay in tune even with the Bigsby?
-Good quality parts?

Played the town and country 3p and a couple of other Eastwoods in a store once. They all are quite different even though I thought they were all just sort of the same guitar in a different package. So I cannot say too much about this model. I had the feeling everything was well done and reliable though. The necks felt comfortable to me, those were all samey. I actually prefer very thin necks like some fenders or my ampeg have, these guys were more solid and thicker in feel but not too chunky. Middle of the road in a good way. The Bigsby was very good, I actually preferred it over the Jazzy's trem I played that day. The Coronado was my favorite out of the lot. The Saturn was really cool as well, but a very big guitar and probably not one I'd use much.

But the "made in Korea" scared me a bit.

They all felt well made and solid to me. But I must admit I've never owned a Guitar that was not made in some cheapo country.

But it's a very beautiful guitar and I like the pickups option.

In the USA there can also be made shit guitars..

But there are enough dealers selling them right? At least I've seen them here in Europe^^

I was in a shop that sold Eastwoods once, and I don't know why I didn't at least pick one up. They seem like they'd be awesome and right up my alley.

I'm pretty leery about the knobs being right above the strings like that though as I'm quite a heavy handed strummer.

I believe it was that it was the fact that I had come there to try a Rickenbacker for the first time, so it's no wonder I was distracted.

Played a gig with a band using one of the old green sparkle limited editions of that guitar. sounded good live. they were a kind of angular early Arctic Monkeys kind of band.

Interesting. We have in europe a lot of the korean guitars in the shops and so the "try" is often possible. In my personal experience korean instruments are top notch in built quality to price ratio (e.g. cort). I had a lot and still have at least one (jazz guitar with bigsby) - can't remember if some more. And i miss my Hiram Bullock Cort quite a bit.
Korea has a big music industry and a long tradition. I would not mix it up with "other asian" manufacturers. But just my opinion.

You're probably right...at this price range... probably well built anyway.

I played one once to try out a bunch of pedals at Moog in Toronto. Didn't care for it. Felt cheap and plastic-y to me, though it was one of the less fancy models. Could have been the varnished neck maybe? But my impression was that the overall fit and finish was more plastic and wood. Didn't have that hum or vibe that I like in a guitar. To each his own though. I like less finished wood and chunky necks.
