Fender Graham Coxon Tele~!

Post by Spiteface »

About damn time!

European-only thing. I suppose that makes sense though - how big were Blur outside of the UK?

I just wish I could afford to be buying a new guitar right now. I'd even flog my Baja and Squier CV for one of these, I think!
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

I think Blur had one "smash hit" in the States, 15 years ago maybe (Musical Dark Ages). It's still being played, though mainly during sporting event intermissions, cheerleading routines, and the like.

Talkin' about Song 2, right?

Really, I have to ask, what the hell is the point of this particular guitar? A Tele with a neck humbucker and his name on it?

You could say that about several sigs, to be fair. Especially ones by white man blues guys. I fuckin' hate Joe Bonamassa. That has nothing to do with this, I just felt like saying I hate Joe Bonamassa.

I'm surprised it took Fender this long to do this, to be honest. Although the ones Coxon played at Blur's peak in the mid-late 90's were just AVRI '52s, I think. Even Noel Gallagher had a signature Epiphone out before the 90's were over! Admittedly that one was just an expensive bit of merch (Noel never played them himself. The famous Union Jack epi that was probably his most iconic guitar was a refinished Sheraton), but still.

I'd be cool with that, but he is largely seen as a Tele guy...

No, it will be a tele because people don't like jaguars.

That's very true. I'm not picking on Coxon over anyone else; I think that signature models that have no real differences from various stock models are stupid. Like the various Strat signature models whose sole difference from the stock Fenders is the color. That is stupid to me.

I think it's a nice color and everything, but I for one won't be shelling out mucho dollars for the privilege of a Tele with Coxon's name on it.

Fender's issuing of signature models doesn't seem to have any relationship to current popularity of the artist, nor does Gibson's really...i suppose you could say that Blur have some renewed visibility in the market now because of the reunion gigs etc., but they're late off the mark for that, and recent offerings from Fender (e.g. the Wayne Kramer model) and Gibson (Don Felder and Alex Lifeson models) seem more about commemorating work people did decades ago than anything else IMO.

the neck shapes "used" to be more specialized too. as mentioned, some signatures are just a nod to the past via an iconic guitar, like the wayne kramer. where as others are true signature models that have the artists true upgrades, like the jeff beck strat, or the sonic youth JM's.

and some really don't make sense at all, like the Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass. fucking thing doesn't even LOOK like Jaco's bass. and obviously Jaco wasn't consulted  i'm not even a Jaco nerd, and i'm insulted by that thing.
