Blackheart Killer Ant. Fractional watt 2 x 12ax7 tube head for $100? Less than a lot of pedals? Figured it would be worth it for just the try and return policy, shipping was free and return shipping would have been @ $15.
It's the coolest practice amp I've ever played cuz that's what it actually is. It only puts out practice volume, but with tube sound, killer with pedals and can get full-on power tube sag at less than prob 40 - 50 db.
Squiers rule. If you're patient, you can get a sweet used guitar or bass for $100-$200. Upgrade a few parts and change a sticker and prob 90% of ppl in an audience or seeing your guitar wouldn't know it's not a Fender.

deadbeatriot wrote:so i was killing time in guitar center and grabbed an epi sg jr, because it was in satin black and who doesn't like satin black anyway. turns out it sounds pretty much like you'd expect, but it feels great - super easy to play. i found the neck incredibly comfortable. so i said fuck it and bought the thing for $120.
now i just have to find a nice replacement humbucker.
I saw one in "worn tv yellow" on sunday. I'm going to pick it up next week with a "rocktober" coupon.

A few Epi SG's that I've played definitely outperform their price points.

MXR D+
Epi Valve Jr - probably doesn't hurt that it's going through an Orange cab.

I got one of these used for $125:

It's ugly, and it's pretty much my favorite guitar...and the cheapest by a longshot.

DANELECTRO TUNA MELT TREMOLO. Seriously one of the raddest trems I've ever used. Just wish they didn't break so much!
yeah for real. Those G400s, especially the old, old ones are solidarse guitars. Upgrade the pickups and tuners and you've got something that plays and sounds a hell of a lot better than half the crap that gibson churns out these days. Which is possibly not saying much haha. At one point my two main guitars were one of those 'vintage' finish G400s and a rickenbacker 330, and I played the ric once or twice a week and the then epiphone until it pretty much fell apart after about three years of solid shows. Was the final decision in selling my rickenbacker and buying a 'proper' SG. No regrets.
(well...some, I'll buy another ric one day).

My Squier Affinity Strat is killer playing guitar.
A buddy of mine had one of those fancy dancy usa made strats and side by side the Squier played much better and they sound practically identical.
On a whim I did change out the pickups to a set of Benson Customs and it does sound a bit more chimey and quacky but the old ones are still good and may get a home in my next project git.
