I just like to have as many dirt options as possible for different songs, but I'm still looking for that one primary tone. I'm also open to the idea of other effects pedals that I can leave on a lot rather than just for the occasional bit where I want a flanger sweep, I still don't have any kind of auto/synth wah effect, a Vibrato/Chorus, stuff like that.
I use a Tele copy into an Ad30VT.
For getting more dirt tones, (not necesssarily finding your one signature tone), there's cheap Dano Cool Cat stuff:
(distortion) The Drive is an F*lltone OCD in disguise:

(fuzz) The Fuzz is a Frantone Peachfuzz in disguise:

Both can be had for roughly $29 so it'd be a cheap experiment to see if they have the unique dirt tone you're after. YMMV with your gear.
I dig them both, the Drive pedal can be really harsh on the treble side so I leave the treble completely off most of the time. Maybe that's what you're after, dunno.
I've got a TP as well, and when it's on, the TP is my tone. I think of it as my KISS four-knob-fuzz (Fuzzfactory, Wolf Computer, Algae Bloom, etc) because I don't really get much control out of the knobs from it, but it does that kind of modern silicon fuzz sound so well. It doesn't necessarily play with other pedals, because when you kick it on,
IT IS TP TIME.
I'd consider the Cool Cats less likely to takeover your signal, but they mix better with modulation and stuff. Not that they're necessarily more subtle. And the Cool Cats are definitely less awesome than Devi gear. Just my 2 cents on everything
Edit: Sorry, didn't see the whole second page + discussion of Hyperions, interests in octave pedals, etc. Note: the two Dano pedals don't do any octave or oscillation glitchiness, if that's what you're after.
