I used to have a bad impression of those guitars, years ago, when I felt like I only saw them as part of those starter kits you'd see at chain stores. I think they're cool now though and I think they have a rep as solid, real instruments. I think a guy in the SNL band last week had a Mascis JM Squier.

This particular model seems to be changing minds of even the most vehement Squier haters worldwide. Fairly solid offset for $379 is hard to hate on.

Everytime i've played with him he was always using his 78' fender p-bass that was beat to hell. Are you talking bout the buzzoven days?

Tough to argue with such a cool guitar for such a low price.. I read Phil Okeefe's review of it on HCFX and it sounds like a really good guitar too, not just really affordable.

Don't intend to buy one, but I've got to try out one of those J. Mascis jazzys soon. Maybe it will make me a little bit more like him.

Anyone tried the regular squier jazzmasters? i kinda like the butterscotch, and i kinda want a p90 guitar so i figured it would be a good platform to swap in some better pickups but im weary about the neck and hardware...

I don't give a fuck if you're using a Squier or a Fender or a Taiwanese copy of either. It doesn't matter, "cheap instrument" doesn't mean "lack of talent". If the instrument is to your liking then there's no need to speak badly of it for other people's sake or feel self-conscious about it. And you don't have to prove its worth to anyone, either.
I love cheap guitars; they're more attractive to me. People aren't afraid to fuck them up and the sincerity is visible. How people personalize them is the most interesting part.

I don't hate the fancy pristine guitars, if that's your style then go for it. But I will always gravitate towards the beater.

Also, it's cool that there are a few doods from VA on here now

You could always get the new Modern Player Jag bass if you needed a Fender but didnt want to drop too much dough: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Mode ... 2013857.gc

Although what really needs to happen is your band mates need to get the sand out of their vaginas.
