Lightweight guitars: Parker Fly
I'm in the market for a lightweight guitar and I'm dreaming about a Parker. I'm kinda looking for a second opinion about them.
I was originally drawn to the SG for a light axe but the neck-heavy balance issues really turn me off. Parkers run around 5 lbs total and they have some pretty sweet technology built in. The really nice ones with the set-neck run around 3k new and 1k used. The import bolt-on models look almost identical and are around $600 new. I'm leaning toward import only because I can't afford a thousand bucks, especially for a used guitar! Any Parker fanboys here that can offer some advice? Maybe there's another lightweight guitar I don't even know about? Oh, and I already have a Steinberger Spirit that I like a lot.
Thanks

I mean, if you wear the strap right, SGs balance fine. But, I guess, there's also the option of getting a pine Telecaster if you really don't want it to weig anything. Or, there's the recent Ampegs that are like the Dan Armstrongs but wood.

The melody maker might be worth trying, thanks for reminding me of that! The "special" has two P-90s in it, and if it weighs anywhere close to a Parker I might be compelled to try it for the price alone. It DOES have a set neck as opposed to the import Parker... And it's USA made! I just e-mailed Musician's Friend about the weight on the MMs because Gibson's webpage doesn't list it. I'll post when I find out.
About the SG, I know I can get a thick leather strap to keep the neck from dropping, but I'm just not willing to make that compromise. I've gotta have my strap all slidey-like

Maton guitars are sweet lookin'.
So are Parker Flys.
I hate the way Parkers play, though. Feel too plastic to me.

I got one of those Ampegs and every other guitar feels sooooooo heavy now. I've got an old japanese plywood beater that is really light as well, maybe you want to look into that kind.

I have an Electra x280 (They also make an x290) that when compared to my SG is just as light and plays just as good.
You can find them on ebay for under $300.

No, he just tries really hard to be provocative. He just ended his little runaway act and is back to the same old tired tricks.

What sucks is that he voiced an opinion, and then people people insulting him was the derail to the thread.
Also, yeah, Dano's are fucking light. Nothing inside of them. Also, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheap used. Regularly found on CL here for under $200 all day long. I understand if you want a Fly, there's very little quite like it. But, man, there sure are a lot of other guitars in the world. Give 'em a shot. All of the guitars.
EDIT: also, sometimes, certain guitars just happen to be incredibly light, though other guitars that are the exact same brand and model aren't, due to differences in the individual piece of wood used in the guitar. Generalizations can be made, yes, and construction and wood choice make a big difference, but sometimes, a guitar is just fuckin' light. So, just go out and play a bunch, and maybe you'll find something. That's my favorite advice to get, because it gives me an excuse to do that.
