What the fuck happened there

Apparently, at one point a major twat owned this and fucked up the trem- the tailpiece is sunken and I can't figure out why. Thankfully, the trem still functions and the only affect it seems, is to make re-stringing awkward. Does anyone that knows more than me that cam help me with that?

Aside from that, this thing is total bonerville.
