Jag pick ups

Post by BlindtoFaith »

I am looking to get a new and better bridge pup for my new Jag. I love the sound of the stock pup but it seems to treble heavy with almost everything. I want something with the same cut and charm of a Jag pup but with more ass to it. What ya got?

This is relevant to my interests. I got a pretty decent deal on a set of Duncan Antiquity IIs but I have yet to receive them so I can't comment. The stock pickups on my CIJ are awfully harsh on the ears though. Maybe that's part of the charm? :idk:

Cheapest is the Duncan Quarter Pound Jag bridge: a little more ass but still sounds like a Jag. The Pickup Wizard stuff is great for not a lot of money. Best custom option, IMO, would be sending the stock bridge to Curtis Novak for a rewind.

I was gonna suggest the Quarter Pound. That's what I was planning to put in my Tele back when I still had one.

I always wanted to try the Vintage Vibe 90s but never got around to it.
I think the Jag's construction plays such a big part in "that" bridge sound so just about any good single-coil will work. It's also why bad pick-ups sound especially shitty there.

These look sweet! How do you think these compare to Curtis Novak's vintage Jag pickups?

I bought my Jag used and the guy I bought it from put SD Hot Rails in it.. they sound great, but not quite what I'm looking for. Maybe too crispy? I feel like I want a crappier, more lo-fi sound. Post punk, late 70s era Cure or Siouxsie.. Been looking at the Novak vintage jag replacements, or the Novak lipstick Jag ones..

I've got one of those in the bridge and agree with this. Love it.

I got wizard pickups in the neck and bridge. They sound vintagy great, but I think a quarter pounder is probably more what your after.
