Played one of the Lace basses with the weird knobs that have those in it...but the bass was a royal piece of shit so I couldn't really get a good impression of the pickup.

i played the chrome domes in a strat i had for a hot minute - Lace pickups always sound GOOD to me, but they seem to lack character to me. Just vanilla.

have not played them myself, but have heard a friend's aluminum Strat with the single-coils in and they have a very individual, clear, lovely tone.

I've always wondered at how low inductance pickups like the Alumitones or Lawrence/Wilde Micro Coils would get on with finicky fuzz.

Just on looks alone I wish they were the most amazing thing ever; I have a dream of that cosmetics, anodized gold on the PUs to go straight into a Mascis JM and make the 1950s pickguard worth it.

Well at the very least we now have some info on here for people to search for.. so thanks guys.. I totally agree with you rfurtkamp on the looks but after really thinking... the idea of a super accurate, maybe sterile guitar [guitar is not wood mind you..] I chickened out.. and got a old burny [PAF type] for the bridge and a phat cat [p90] for the neck... lol..

i've had a rough time in the past, trying to get the right pickups for a lucite guitar. in fact i've never been happy with the result..just had to settle. i need to revisit my clear strat come to think of it.

lucite guitars are odd beasts... they don't react like wood guitars.. I really like the sound of the mock with the horrid tone circuit unhooked.. but the stock pickups are just too metally... really it's the neck pickup that isn't working out.. it isn't bouncy enough :idk:

I played some weird Fender Custom shop Pbass at a GC in Dallas around xmas that was bright red, had a mirrored and the Alumatone Pbass pickup with a Jbass in the bridge position all hooked up with a three way toggle.

The bridge pickup sound was largely meh, but damn the p pickup sounded sweet as hell. Still don't know what the deal was with that bass, I searched for it after I played it and couldn't find anything about it.
