I have no experience with the peavey, so I'm just here to hype the CV.
I had a CV thinline and loved it. Didn't need to change anything.

A lot of people play up the USA build aspect of older clone Peaveys. Well, yes, but there have been many a crappily built American guitar over the years. I don't doubt that some of those Peaveys are as good as people say, but I wouldn't bank on all or most and do an ebay gamble. Probably the right sort of thing to try to find a bargain at a pawnshop or in the used section of a guitar store. But, hell, a lot of MIJ, MIK, MIT, MIK, and so on, might be gems on similar principles.

best advice i can give is to play them. I can't praise newer Squier's enough, but then again I have no experience with peavey's

I had an acceptable Peavey Predator from the metal age (23 -yes- 23 frets, factor Kahler, ludicrously hot but unmemorable buckers) that I think I paid $50 in the late 90s.

I've played other USA Reactors and Predators from the era and they're just alright.

Today's budget instruments pretty much wreck the stuff from the past.

Just go straight for the Squier. You'll at least have resale value if you're unhappy two years from now - the Peaveys, well...they're boat anchors of guitars to be honest and unless Hendrix 2.0 starts playing one...will be boat anchors forever.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
