Haha sure Kev, let's talk EGCs! Let's just keep in mind what kind of guitar player I am though, right? I'm a palm mutes and power chords kinda guy, not much of a musician, and I only play sitting in a chair in front of a workbench...
Here's some more pics of her, The Reflect! (sung to the tune of Duran Duran's The Reflex)

It's got the custom EGC single coil pickups, I think people describe them as similar to P90s. They're medium output, very well balanced from low frequencies to high frequencies, very rich and full and clear, and since the guitar is all grounded they're really quiet too.
oinkbanana wrote:what kind of strings do you have on there? thought about going even thicker?
It came with .014 to .068 strings tuned to A, awesome size with great tension. Kevin says you can pretty much go as big as you want and it's got huge tuners on it. And yeah, I've thought about a little bigger strings and a little lower tuning...
dubkitty wrote:how does the fingerboard hold up? does it get scraped with string wear?
I was wondering that too, I thought it would get really scratched up really fast but the strings don't seem to do much at all to it. I don't do a lot of bending and wiggling though.

I read on the EGC site that aluminum is pretty tough to scratch and if you do scratch it you can polish it out with billet aluminum polish and elbow grease. The other day I dropped a metal pot against the body of the guitar by accident and it didn't leave a mark. I'm sure I'll mark it up eventually though, it happens.
It does show lots of smudges after you play it lots, the neck and body get smudgey pretty easily, but you just give it a 2 second wipe with a soft cloth and it looks like a mirror again. I've had it about 3 weeks now and haven't polished it with anything except a dry cloth and it looks like a million bucks still, just dusty. It's dusty down here.
Here's what it looks like compared to something more familiar, you can see how big the frets are and the neck length.. it's definitely different feeling than a 25" scale. It's definitely heavier than that JM too.
AngryGoldfish wrote:On TGP in the EGC thread there, someone had bought one of Kevin's guitars and had found it a little bit too heavy on the neck (it was a V), and was quite sticky. What he did to remedy this was very lightly polish the neck. Now that he has done this he says it's a lot smoother and even better than before.
I think it's well balanced but I'm not playing standing up or with it strapped on so I could be wrong. I think it's really comfortable to play though... the frets are big but the neck is thin so it works out nicely. I don't move around on the neck too much either so I haven't noticed it being sticky but thanks for that tip Danny, I could see that mattering to people.
oinkbanana wrote:ny special deets on getting them to canada?
Syl's got it right, this guitar was already in Canada so I didn't have to worry about all the customs stuff etc but here's how it would go down for a Canadian to order one of these from the States. If it was sent by USPS it'd cost around $120 and you'd get a letter in the mail from customs asking you to go to your nearest customs office and pay the taxes on it, 5% GST plus your provincial rate for the full value. Then they'd release it and that whole process takes about 2 weeks plus the shipping time. If you had it sent by courier like UPS/FedEx it would cost probably $250 for fast service, arrive soon with no hassles, but then you'd get dinged probably another $200 from them for brokerage fees (GST, tax, plus their handling fees). So if you can get one in Canada already you'll save a lot of extra money and time!
oinkbanana wrote:wanna make us a demo clip?
I do wanna! I wanna make you a demo clip with the EGC and the stereo Cosmi, I just haven't got set up to do that yet. I don't really have a way to do a killer demo just yet, I'm still pondering that. Come on over and check it out though, Quebec to Alberia is a short drive... you can pick up Syl too!
Really cool guitar though and I'm really happy to have it! I love how it sounds, super badass, and the trade situation was awesome, it just went down really well and I feel pretty lucky about it. I've talked to Kevin about putting a 27" aluminum neck on that JM too, I'm hooked on the aluminum sound and feel!
