Shipping/buying lulz

Post by SmallEQ »

I picked up a pretty good deal on a Lakland Skyline active jazz. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271002720581?ss ... 530wt_1139 Obvioulsy, since its wasn't an MI retailer, I was a little skeptical, but I'd bought stuff from blinq.com before, so I wasn't too worried.

Well, it arrived today and man if it isn't the weirdest looking jazz bass I've ever seen...

So the smaller box you see next to it is labled as a 44AJ. Whoever gave the bass to Blinq.com to sell must have done this. The bass is like new, still has the plastic film on the pickguard and tuners and the Plek tag attached (dated 6.10.11).

I called the support number and told them and they were very apologetic. They offered me a full refund to ship it back on their dime like they should have. But the thing is, I think this might actually be more useful to me than the 44AJ, so I told them that I might not be opposed to keeping it and the lady mentioned that they could do a slight refund. I asked "how slight do you mean" and she replied back with $100. That works for me!

So here is my brand new skyline 44-64 custom (formerly Duck Dunn sig model) for $600!

Word, laklands fucking rule. Welcome to the club, here's mine. Mine also has a cool story. My bass teacher has been friends with Dan since his college days and was always tight with him, so when I asked for advice for a new bass he said that he would see if I could go down to the lakland factory and pick out a bass. So there I was sitting in the test room with every amp you could want (all Dan's). Ampeg (vintage and new), Acoustic, vox, TC, Kustom, etc. I tried all of their basses and picked the one you see below, I also got a sneak peek and try of the short scale version of the bass I bought. I also got to see some super top secret stuff, awesome stuff. The one I have, the decade, lists for $1,500, and 4150 for the case (I think). I got the bass for $900 and the case for $70, word. And the head of sales, who I've become friends with, said if anything ever happens, just bring it on back. Awesome guys, awesome basses.

I'm actually not new to Lakland, I happen to have a very nice US JO4 with Chisonics that I'm selling. While its an awesome bass, and maybe better than my current number one (in the avatar), I've just decided that I probably don't need a 2,000 dollar "jazz" bass and if I do want one, it should probably be exactly the specs I want. Of course buying used you can't always get what you want, but if I had my choice it would be rosewood board and finished in Burgundy Mist rather than the still quite excellent looking one below.
