Neck and Fretboard sizes

Post by WeHuntKings »

So, I've been falling out of love with my stratocaster (my only guitar for 4-5 years now), and I've finally understood what it is that I hate about it. The neck is too thin, and the fretboard is entirely too flat for my hands. I've come to appreciate thicker necks over the years, it suits my chording much better. My fender's neck is ULTRA thin, like thinner than an Ibanez wizard thin.

What are some good, curvy radii that facilitate nice bends and easier barre chords? I kinda want to find a new neck and call it a day.

I think you probably want a "C" shaped neck with a 7.25" radius.

I like wider necks. So, I'd also probably go with something 1 5/8" at the least.

Thanks, I will have to check that out! Now, is Warmoth the place to go for buying necks, or is there a cheaper option?

I don't have any experience buying replacement necks, but've heard good things about both Guitar Mill and USACG.

Do some comparison shopping.

bends are actually facilitated by a flatter radius. the 7.25 radius will cause the bend to fret out sooner than the 9.5 radius. that said, i don't like flat boards and skinny necks, they don't feel right. a 7.25 on a u is my idea of perfection.

I think Warmoth is the best option. They offer the most customization for the best prices and their truss rod system
is a lot easier to adjust than any neck I've seen.
You can find them a little cheaper on eBay if your willing to wait.
