What controls should the standard Great Wall have?

Gain, Fuzz, Voltage, Level + Voice/Bass Toggle.

Forget the 4 knob. Give the standard Great Wall 5 controls: Gain, Fuzz, Voltage, Tone, Level, + Tone-Bypass Toggle.

Great Wall controls POLL! :)

Post by FuzzHugger »

I  the Great Wall circuit, but have been thinking about the controls for the standard GW.

I've already changed them once, with the standard 4-knob Great Wall. I replaced the Tone control and Bypass-Toggle with a Voltage control and a Voice Toggle.
I felt the Voltage knob and Voice toggle would make for more usable range.

But the Dlx. Great Wall (which has a Tone control) still sells the best.
Maybe cause it adds another fuzz mode and also has the Voltage control...
But now I'm thinking people might prefer the Tone control.

SO!

What controls should the standard Great Wall have?

Momentry switch rather than latching switches could be a really interesting option, too.

I voted for the first option (Gain, Fuzz, Voltage, Level + Voice/Bass Toggle). It just seems to me that this is the best setup to get the most versatility out of the pedal.

:) That's why that's the current setup for the standard one!

And I know a lot of people who set-and-forget tone knobs...whereas these controls have usability all across their sweep.

But the Standard Great Wall sold faster with the Tone control (and the Tone control does work well)...which is why I'm now thinking about controls again.

(Also, for those calling for the 5-knob, it's been available! :poke: ;) I listed that as an option, because discontinuing the 4-knob and making it 5-knobs standard is one possibility.)

I'm also thinking about a 3-knob, dual-footswitch version...

Fuzz, Voltage, Level, and two fuzz modes (like the Dlx GW).

The way I see it is that if it's called the GREAT WALL, it's gotta be in a horizontal layout, and have a whole buncha knobs!
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

That's what's goin' on with the Deluxe version!

:)
So for the standard version, I'm really toying with which controls to include. (The circuit is where it's AT! Figuring out what controls people would dig the most is the challenge!)

The Gain Reducer makes it not as wall-ish. ;) Though it adds to the flexibility.

Honestly, imo, it'd be at is biggest and best with dual-switchable fuzz modes, and Fuzz, Voltage, Level controls (without gain reduction...though maybe the Tone knob is what sells it).

See what I go through?!?

I say screw the gain reduction, and put in a tone control instead. If people want to reduce their gain, they should get a different (i.e. wussy) pedal instead. :p

Yep. I've got to agree with that sentiment.

There should be a Great Wall Dlx with extra gain, more fuzz, oscillation, and maybe a photo-eye for kicks to get some more crazy sounds out. Perhaps combine it with an AB-Synth for more wild times.
