a similar physical configuration to Jerry Garcia's Doug Irwin "Wolf" guitar:

with a custom-made system to swap out pickups similar to the Ampeg Dan Armstrong but which allows fore/aft adjustment of the PUs.

I already built my dream bass: Oly White p bass, tort guard, passive barts, std volume and tone knobs, unlined fretless jazz neck, matching headstock w/ waterslide decal, hipshot detuner. Soooo simple. Soooo good.

As for a dream guitar, I don't know... I haven't been playing long enough to have touched/heard different configurations to mentally assemble something "dream" worthy.

I would never settle on one instrument being Perfect :idk:

But if you were twisting my arm, this would be pretty badass:

Jazzmaster, hollowbody steel ala Trussart. Violin f-hole on the upper contour. Cream paint rubbed through to expose the metal underneath.
Aluminum neck ala EGC. White marble inlays (small dots)
Nice jazzy singlecoil pickups - Lollars probably?
Piezo pickup under bridge & third pickup selector switch to enable it
Mastery bridge
Mind control rays shoot out from guitar while it is being played
Sharks with freakin' lasers.

Made this up as I went along

-Semi-hollow Telemaster body with a dark walnut stain
-Set neck, ebony fretboard with small diamond shaped ivory colored inlays on the sides of the neck only, ~25" scale, strat headstock
-Wide Range Humbucker in the neck, trashy single coil in the bridge
-Tele deluxe-esque picguard, all black
-One volume knob, on tone knob, one knob to blend between pickups (full ccw is bridge, full cw is neck, different combos between)

This is fun.... I've daydreamed about a neck-through or set-neck Gibson-scale Jazzmaster for a bit...

Doesn't matter the shape, really. Something odd and Fenderish.

Chambered mahogany body (chambered for weight and tone!)
24.75 scale neck, but bolt on! (I like the Gibson scale, but like the idea of easily replaceable necks!)
Adjustable wraparound stop-tail bridge.
P-90 neck pickup only...or also a P-90 middle pickup (I almost never use bridge pickups).
Natural or natural burst finish.
Blacked headstock.
Rosewood fretboard.

Pretty easy!

Since this is no limits, and because this guitar probably would already have killer sustain, let's say we add a sustainer circuit (perhaps as part of the piezo pickup circuitry) that has separate coils for each string. And minimal wireless MIDI gear to switch which coils are active per song and to set the desired frequency of sustain. Then you could program in triads or whatever and trigger it with a MIDI foot controller. But that's not all.

What if it could have a tuner built in? Not like a robot tuner, but a snark-like LED tuner embedded in the body. And some other LEDs that are sound reactive (again, tie into the piezo pickup for these)

Oh? And a Muff circuit inside it! Because why not?

I could come up with some crazier stuff where the guitar has a wireless MIDI/synth pickup and triggers video samples on a projector, but I think the stuff above would be pretty cool.
