Reverse Jag Bass Hard Case Suggestions?

Post by Holy Schnikes »

Recently picked up a Reverse Jag Bass in 2-color Sunburst and I effin' love this thing! Mind you I play guitar and I'm not terribly picky with bass but I like the overall weirdness of the reverse shape so it has strong appeal with me. Neck rules, no dive, 32" scale is excellent, and humbuckers are killer. Pairing it with a Ampeg Micro VR stack I got on trade and it's a bitchin' little home/recording rig.

But onto the negative. Bass ships with a gig bag only and Fender recommends a $300 G&G hard case as the best solution. I'm not down to spend that kinda bank on a case for it tho as it's about 50% what I spent on the bass! Any suggestions?

What you guys using for your Standard Jag Bass cases? I hear both the TKL Triumph Series and Fender Jazz Bass cases suffice, maybe I can squeeze it in one of those? A little skeptical, not so much on the reverse body shape but the medium 32" scale leaving too much gap. Guess I could cram something in there to keep it from moving but I'm hoping to find a better solution...

Or maybe a Lefty Jazz Bass case, who knows??

I use a molded Fender case like this for my regular Jag Bass:

I got it for like $50 on Talkbass.
Fits just fine, no wobbliness...seems like if you found a left-handed one it would work.

Yeah I know
You could throw some T-shirts down and put it in the righty case face-down, I guess...
But really I just use a Levy's bag if I'm taking it anywhere. Super-padded and covered in leather, no problem even if you drop it. Plus that's the only thing the SBV fits in.

Oh, if you get some leftover mattress topper foamy stuff and a "one case fits all" deal, you could improvise and pad it to fit neatly around the bass. Looks super ghetto but it works!

Haha, I've been tossing around ideas of what to stuff in there striving for minimal ghetto factor but whatever works is fine by me. :thumb:

Finally joined TB today so I could post this question, actually got some great info over there. Figured I'd share it for anyone who's facing this problem in the future....

Fender makes a Pro Series P/J Bass hardshell case with a universal fit for right or left-handed instruments though the interior isn't pictured often online. It's one of those with the large center compartment (2 compartments in this instance) and neck support down the middle of the case. I'll link Elderly since they have a nice shot of it but it can be had cheaper with a little searching:

Here's some pics from the TB member (Immigrant was his username, super helpful dude) where you can see his Pro Series case and how nicely it fits his bass.

My Squier VM Jag bass fits just in the standard Guitar Center bass case, that's like 50 or 60 bucks. I think it's brand is Musician's Gear or some shit. :idk:

I tried a GC/Musician's Friend Fender bass case but the tuners were banging up against it due to the reverse headstock.

I found a used Pro Series case on their website for $80 tho. I can live with that.
