Sunny Day Delay

Post by Nychthemeron »

I never see this pedal enough. It was the first delay I ever wanted when I was first learning about FX pedals. Are there any plans for a revamp of it like the RRR? Maybe add a feedback option for UFO sounds?

Hi Nych, sorry I'm so late replying to this!

I definitely think the SDD could follow in the path of the Reverberator.. I've been pondering that a bit and here's what I'd ultimately like to do....

Move the current version of the SDD, plus a knob for modulation depth, into the small size box ala the miniberators. Then I'd make a new delay probably with a new name that would be similar to the SDD but with a few new features like tap tempo and at least a full second of delay and a tone control for the repeats. I like the idea of stuffing as much pedal as possible into the small boxes but then also making more decked out versions with more features in bigger boxes.

And yea, we don't make a ton of SDDs.. less than 250 are out there but I'm happy with how they sound and work, I think they're a really solid delay pedal... thanks for checking them out!

well, yeah. i mean wtf? i just thought that everyone wanted and needed and crrrraved stuff like that. Now i kinda feel special to own a dr.s.-pedal.

but i don't now they were that special.

any numbers on the rest of them? (sorry for getting off topic)

edit: also, here in denmark anyways, they're somewhat more expensive. i guess a lot of great stuff is, bit it would make a lot of people by hte regular stuff instead, like boss, line6 and whatnot.

SDDs are pretty popular, all of our stores order them with every order, it's just that we don't make very many pedals. We're currently working on orders from July 08, we're nearly at a 13 month lead time, and if you added up all the SDDs that are on order we'd be over 400 or 500.

Our numbers look approximately like this:

RRR x 600
Trem x 250
SDD x 250
Frazz x 150
Clean x 100
WW x 80
CC v1 x 100
CC v2 x 30

We only make 45 - 60 pedals a month, depending on how hard we push ourselves, and that's why we're forging this new path with manufactured pcbs and boxes from PPP. Tanya and I just can't make very many since we do it all from scratch.. all the board populating, box drilling and sanding, all the little details... and we're kind of work rogues.. we don't want employees and an office space and 9 to 5 hours and all that. We know we have to make more pedals to keep up with demand but we want to do it on our terms, so we're going to have some of the chores done for us. Our goal is to have miniberators available in the 100s per month and then in the not too distant future after that we'll set up all of our pedals like that.

We know we could sell a lot more pedals if they were available but that's just never been what drives us, we really do this for the lifestyle.. being able to work together, being able to work when and where we want and how we like, and having total control over the products we put out. Our goals for the future of Dr. Scientist are to still hang on to those aspects we think are important or special but still make our pedals more available as we know the lead times are unacceptable.

Sounds cool! I guess i also gives u the change to make changes, without anyone getting stuck with a whole bunch of "older" versions.

Very true, mff, that's a big part of it for me... I do seem to do a lot of tweaks and little changes and sometimes big changes and for now, at our small scale, it's great to be able to make changes when I want to. There's always lots to learn and lots of ways to think about how effects are used, I'm always open to changes that make pedals more versatile/powerful/fun/playable/etc.

Perhaps an added effects loop?

I think Always Sunny is the most laugh out loud funny tv show ever, it really cracks me up! Jon, you gotta check it out.. it's a really special show. We put off watching it for awhile, just figured it was another sitcom that was nothing to get excited about, but it's hilarious and completely original... the levels of depravity that the gang sinks to every episode are amazing. Wildcard!

Stephen, you ever see those guys around Philly? Is Paddy's a real location you can go to? Have you ever just been driving around and saw green man doing some weird stuff somewhere? Are you going to be able to see the live show this fall? Can I come with you?

Jon, did you get your Frazz yet?

B-man, I never really considered adding an effects loop to the SDD... you guys think that's an important or highly sought after feature? I've never messed around with any pedals that had that feature, I don't even know if I like it or not!

More features, more better. I've never really used an effects loop before, but I've heard that they're pretty indispensable for others. I'm happy with the current SDD as it is though.
