Top strings/bottom strings pickup splitting

Post by gunslinger_burrito »

So. I used to have a G&L Comanche, but I took out the z-coils forever ago in favor of humbuckers. BUT, the weird pickup selection on it got me thinking.... I'm sure there's an option out there like this, but does anyone know of a pickup setup, guitar, or DIY thing where I could have two humbuckers, but split them so that I can get the LOW strings of the neck, and the HIGH strings of the bridge? Make sense? thanks doods :hello:

i did something close to what you're talking about.

Image

the bridge pickup is split between the D and G and the weirdo pickup just covers the G/B/E strings.
so the bottom always stays tight and the top gets smooth. different caps on the weirdo pickup are brought in with the selector.

i had the pickups specially made by Cream T in Norway

i dig it.

Ok. I saw the BEST signal split/dual output setup in the world on Friday.
I didn't get the full story, but here's what I got:
Bridge pickup had the pole pieces for the low strings removed, vice versa on the neck pickup. Each PU had a separate output.
Dude had pitch shifters and stuff, and he had a pretty killer bass AND guitar tone going on.

That sounds crazy.
Separate outputs as in he had two cables coming out of his guitar, right?

Not that uncommon an arrangement.

Dude from the band Local H had pickups with separate outputs on his guitar:

Also, Novax Charlie Hunter models (and Charlie Hunter's other guitars) have this configuration:

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wanna like the look of Novax guitars more than I actually do.

I don't even like Charlie Hunter's playing. Technically he's great, but stylistically it's not my thing.

Ralph Novak is the luthier who came up with the whole fanned fret and bridge system concept that's on everyone's favorite Dingwall.

eagle twin dude does this as well doesn't he? I guess it depends on what you're going for. Both he and dude from Local H are more like, bass pickup under the top three strings to a bass amp type setups.

Yeah, there's all kinds of ways to do something like splitting outputs.

I like this Gretsch:
