Other option might be to go with a lipstick pickup or even the matching humbucking Tele neck pickup. Not sure how "balanced' the lipstick would sound relative to the Tele bridge.

Lipstick in the neck is also awesome. I agree that it might be a little unbalanced though. I've got a lipstick in the neck of my Jag with a humbucker bridge and the combo is exactly the same level

While we're on the topic of pickups, I'm super tempted to try and replicate this:

Image

By sticking a contact mic/piezo element under the bridge. After all, my body is semi-hollow, so it should be a bit louder & body should resonate more than, say, my fully solid SG. But I dunno. Too ambitious? :idk:

Edit: Hmm. Just saw that fishman makes this:

Image

(It's a fishman pickup in a Tele bridge. looks like the saddles might be a pain to adjust string height?)

Nah dude, go for it. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing when I had my Telemaster. Would you think that it would need an onboard preamp? That was my fear in wanting to do it

Yeah, it needs a preamp. That's the kicker. I could always route a spot for it on the back.. the typical Gibson knob area? And then drill through a little join that to the Tele front control plate to make wiring easier.

Edit: Oh, you're supposed to pair it with this guy, the Fishman Powerchip, but it is discontinued. The cool thing about this is that it can either mix with your magnetic pickups or send out a stereo signal if you put a stereo jack in the guitar!

Image

I wonder if I can just run a GuitarFetish MOD boost as a preamp?

Edit Edit: nevermind, Musician's Friend still has the Powerchips for $90. Not terrible.. somewhat pricey for this project. :idk:

Edit edit edit: I looked at the Graphtec solution, which is about the same price. Might be nice to have a real Tele bridge and Graphtec saddles, though. :idk:

Nice. Lookin' good so far.

(One time one of my roommates went on vacation to Morocco and brought me back a guimbri, the top of which is made from a camel skin.

My cat was "inspecting" it for a long time. Never smelled anything like it. Nothing like kitty quality control.)

I just had to keep an eye on him after that. Padouk is toxic and I couldn't be sure it was free of sawdust.. last thing I need is to rush a kitty to the ER Vet :/

Also, there's *plenty* of room inside for a preamp and battery, if I wanted. I see that the top is glued on, but underneath it's hollowed out the entire area under the control plate, and the upper half is also hollow. the "core" from bridge to neck joint is solid, though.

Go for it!!!

It looks like those Fishman saddles have the normal string height adjusters...just a little allen wrench.
(Where that Fender one, you have to adjust by shimming and rechecking. Though I love the look of the wooden one!

The grain is really great on this piece of wood. Richard nailed it.

It makes me sad that I don't have all the parts to just throw it together and start rocking. The thing wants to play.. the semi-hollowbody is resonant in a way that previous Fender bodies I've had weren't.

We were talking about how to finish my guitar the other day and floated the idea of doing a tobacco burst, with the natural orange on the front as the "burst" and black/brown around the edges.

Image

And on the back, do a traditional orange-to-black burst.

Thoughts?

Y E S . That's my thoughts on that.

Also, I saw this guitarist Brandon Seabrook play a while ago, and he had this amaaaaaaazing Tele with a piezo bridge that he was playing the hell out of. So many incredible tones coming out of that thing. Killer guitar player.

Image

Lastly, Duncan Antiquity II's are gorgeous gorgeous pickups. I had a really nice parts Jazzmaster for a while that had those in it, and they were fantastic.

I think I might do a Vintage Stack Tele Bridge and an Antiquity II Jazzmaster neck.
