You can find used studio LPs on the cheap nowadays, with the clearance prices I've seen lately you could probably talk someone down even further. 90's-early 2k studios are pretty damn nice.

the only problem with them and any old lawsuit LP is what it is made out of.. it's a mix some are nice and solid and others are plywood with a domed top that is held in place by a few more scraps of plywood. Meaning YOU NEED that pict of the pickups out of the guitar so you can get a look at the pickup holes to see what the build is.. THAT is why so many Japanese sellers pull the pickups in the picts.

For reals? Damn. I've never seen them go for that cheap. I need to look harder!
yeah... 1200 is pretty cheap for a heritage, but every once in a while one will pop up. I've seen several in the 1300-1400 range (like this one or this one) and you could always try to talk them down.
Was gonna throw that out there but would likely run over the OP's budget. That Mastersound looks and plays wonderfully but those pickups were too low output for my tastes and a weird size to replace sadly. Also runs like $1500 usually.
The BB1200 is what I have now and it fucking rules but it'll set ya back even further financially. Worth it tho, amazing guitars.
You could probably find a standard Mastersound used for under 1K but they sure don't come up often for much less.
I've never seen that 50th Ann model come up used even close but I'd def be willing to dump more cash into pickup swaps if I had. Ended up selling mine for $1750.
honestly, i prefer the standard Tokiwa FilterTrons that come standard on modern Gretsches to the TVs. i find TVs to be a little too modern-sounding (fat, midrangey) to tickle my Gretsch fancy. they're also as cheap as chips on eBay or from Gretsch specialists like Blackrider who sell parts.
