Strat+Tele Abomination project

Post by JohnnyC »

Hi all, new to this forum, refugee from HC...

just thought id show off my cheapo project.
its a squier vintage modified tele neck and a samick strat body (from my very first electric guitar over 15 years ago...which i resprayed in 2pac honda jazz purple when i was working at my uncles panel and paint as a teenager) the body was found in my shed...long forgotten so yeah...figured id slap it together.

apart from the obvious strat neck pocket/tele neck heel mismatch...it surprisingly intonates and holds in tune considering its slap-together ness.
ordered a set of these pickups off ebay...no idea what they are but i got them solely because they look cool and were cheap...bridge is apparently stupid hot at 18K+ will double check when they arrive...

so far everything you see here has set me back less than $50AUD! (body already had, neck was donated by a friend, pickups ebay)

the body is swimming pool routed, and im thinking of wiring it up 3 way tele style (one vol/one tone) so that leaves one spare hole on the pickguard...
toying with the possibility of building a fuzz straight into the guitar...plenty of room!

anyone got any other abomination projects they care to share?

Welcome, dude. Your guitar experiments will fit right in here.
Sounds sweeeeeet., and I'm interested to see how that bridge pickup works out. 18k, what the shit. They look cool as fuck too.
I know someone here built a Fuzzhugger circuit into their bass and it was AWESOME...so I say go for it.

I do have an abomination of my own: viewtopic.php?f=192&t=27802
(Currently strung up with stupidly huge strings and tuned to B, below E(standard) in the bass register )

^ wtf? that is soo badass!!!

ive "ruined" a few other guitars by installing guitar circuits/attacking the body with routers...
i dont mind doing it on cheaper guitars like this VM jazzy

Phase 1 is complete...

Pickups are...interesting measured in at just under 18K. Neck at around 9K
the Neck is really bassy/warm/super smooth. i like it for legato and smooth fusion type playing
the bridge has got huge Tight bass...and a top end clarity...but not too aggressive. sounds great with fuzz.

Phase II - will prob have to get some new tuners...and im routing it for a battery compartment and installing a fuzz of some sort (might be restricted to a one knobber) but i have plenty of room in the body.
will have to ponder over and test which circuit pairs best with this guitar.
