I generally prefer North Indian music to South Indian, but it's all good.

It's 3 3/8" actually, I think they don't count the rounded end.

For anything less than 8 strings, around 3" should be fine. (TWSS)

Yeah I've wanted to do something with sympathetic strings for years and years.... I have given thought to taking a cheap sitar and pulling off all the frets actually... or just geting one of those TANPURA + SWARMANDAL things...
