Hum-sized single coils?

Post by hollowhero »

So I've got a 335 semi-hollow type guitar with humbuckers that I'm not really jiving with. I'd really like to get some single coils in there and I was hoping for some humbucker-sized single coil recommendations. I'm aware of the sd phat cats, but are there any others you guys would recommend? Thanks in advance

Lollar makes an HB-sized SC set: http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/mercha ... er-pickups

And there is a set in b/s/t here for $150 right now!

You should check out the GFS Mean 90s.
They are as awesome as they are inexpensive. :thumb:

The three I've been looking to get for my guitar are from The Creamery, Bareknuckle, and Bryan Gunsher. The latter having probably too long of a wait period, but cheaper than the first two. Specially living in the states. I have a Bareknuckle P90 in my Tele that I absolutely love. Best pickup I've had. Definitely makes me think any of their HB size single coils will be just as good. And Jaime at The Creamery makes a good sounding P90 in a HB size as well as a Wide Range in a HB size. He has also been extremely nice and helpful in responding to emails.

I've heard excellent things about the Mean 90 from GFS considering the cost.

Vintage Vibe make some really cool HB sized blade pickups. in fact, i was thinking about replacing the 'bucker in the bridge of my Blacktop BariTele with one that i have in a drawer.

Not HB sized single coils. But some P-Rails with push pull volume/tone knob config for coil tapping would be absolutely tits in a 335.

Recently installed a BG Pure 90 in the bridge of my Ric 480 and it sounds superb. I don't know if I like it more than my Bareknuckle P92, but I certainly don't like it less. It sure cost a heck of a lot less than a BK.

Awesome. It would be nice not to have to drop crazy $$$ for good new pickups

Yeah, I hear yah. Bareknuckle was my last option due to cost. The Hum-90 from the creamery would have been just under $130 shipped to the states. BG's are $80 new. Downside is there's a 4-6 week wait period on them. I lucked out and found one on eBay for $65. Like I said, I really dig it. Doesn't have as much low end and low mids as my Barrknuckle, but it seems to have more character and more life. Specially the single notes and leads. There's still plenty of thickness on the low notes, though. Just an overall nice pickup. And it's hotter than any other P90 Hum I was looking at besides BK's.
