Yep, it's a Gretsch. I couldn't tell you which exact model though. Looks like he's playing it upside down. Those Neo Classic inlays are usually at the top.

Seems like it might be designed to be ambidextrous - there are strap pegs on both the top & bottom horn, and thumb rests both above and below the strings. Interesting design idea.

Yeah, unless he had one of those strap buttons installed. Gretsch instruments often have selector switches on both sides of the upper bout. Basses from that era in general also commonly have finger rests both above and below the strings. So, it's difficult to say.
