Help me choose pickups for my Jag

Post by bob the r0bot »

Hey guys,
I've decided that the lipsticks I currently have in my Jag, while they do sound very nice, need to be replaced by something more output than tea-light. I'm not really up on my pickup game though, so I thought I'd ask you gentlemen for suggestions.

What I'm looking for:
~fuller sound (which I guess translates to slightly more mids and tighter low-end)
~moderate output (7-9k ish)
~cheapish (less than $200 for a set)

the only real options that had come to mind were antiquity II's and lace sensor(y'know, for that Annie Clark vibe)

As a preemptive thank you, here's a picture of a Munchkin

I don't have much experience with pickups, but I like the seymour duncan I have in my jag, it's the hotter jag pickup they do and it's got a good amount of output and sounds nice to me. Not too expensive either.

That thing is so CUTE! But it must hate having such adorable tiny legs.

A pair of Novaks is $200 and they're spectacular.

I really only like the "antiquity" or whatever duncans or fender AV. But I also use lower value pots for a darker tone. This is mostly so my jag works perfectly with my fuzzes.

Thanks guys, I'm going to look into a set of Antiquities; failing that, Novak.

im the market for pickups too but its been so long since ive owned a jaguar like 8 years or summin soo im accumulating back to the jag sound
i kinda like how bright and jangly they are but the top end is gnarly for me

also fuzz and overdrive sound terrible overdrive sounds like mush and fuzz just sounds weak

maybe its just a mij thing?
i was thinking maybe some pickup wizard cbs set or is that the general kinda sound of a jag pickup
i kinda want that bright jangle but like more mid grind and mebe some more lows more clorox girls
im just used to playing a jazzmaster

i can't speak for other jags, but the bareknuckles in my marr jag sound fantastic with fuzz, overdrive, or any effect in fact. i think it's the best playing and sounding guitar i've ever owned.
