I love this song I've written and recorded most of but I tried to start recording vocals today and quit after about 10 minutes because my voice sucks and I didn't see the point. Annoyiiiing.

Dont scrap it, just finish it and either be done with it or rerecord vocals later. I do this a lot. I save an istrumental and a vocal track just in case. I rather have a shitty complete song than a shitty incomplete song.

hendrix hated hated hated his own voice. he at many times felt that it was the worst part of all his records. (during the british explosion he wanted a higher voice for his records) thats why towards the end w/ band of gypsies he sang about half the tunes live.

all i can say is i love love love hendrix's deep bassy voice. it fits so amazing i couldnt imagine the songs with a higher voice. we are our own worst critic. if your digging the tune lay some vocal tracks down. what may be your least favorite part may be someone else's favorite!

That's great for Hendrix but my voice is NOT good. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just the bad tone, so I don't mind singing live, but I often have trouble singing the melodies I write in tune without fucking up so it's no fun recording at all.

spent a large portion of today going through the four cartons of old papers i needed to cull to save space on the assumption everything's getting packed up momentarily. it was necessary, particularly because there's lots of stuff with personal information that needed to be shredded, but it was quite depressing. among the things i had to revisit were the entire process of buying and losing the house, two or three hundred pages of e-mail printouts which covered the first three years of my relationship with my ex, the papers from my trip to Holland for my honeymoon with wife #2, years of old photos going back to the early 80s and including photos from my father's funeral...it's not exactly delightful to encounter your dad lying in his coffin.

i'm totally nerve-shot from anxiety, not knowing whether i'll stay or go. i'm smoking a half a pack of cigarettes a day and drinking (in moderation...i HATE drunks and drunkenness because EVERYBODY IN MY FAMILY is/was a fucking alcoholic) every night, neither of which is good for my health. and i'm scared. getting or not getting this job will likely determine the direction of the next few years of my life, whether i continue to work and try or whether i give up and move to the sticks and apply for disability. i really need to know, and i can't know until as late as the end of the week. by then my brain will have been reduced to protein slurry. but all i can do is wait.

that's what being around my cousin is like at least half of the time. even when he's in the other room he yaps at the TV so much that i sit here saying "oh, SHUT UP." he was just on the phone telling his fiancee that he didn't enjoy watching Pride and Prejudice because "there's nobody to root for." i simply cannot understand how someone can be so immature at 50.

Ah, man. I actually came here to be whiny. But this is one of the rare occasions where seeing some other people are unwell makes me actually want to pull myself together and not be mopey. So, guys, thanks for that and also:

Stay strong.

A friend of mine lost a finger at work. She's really upset and depressed, and I want to cheer her up, but like what do you say? 'Feel better'? It's not like the finger will grow back.

It's not like it's a life threatening injury or anything like that, but I think she thinks it has ruined her looks.
