Yea they are instrument. if you have ever heard of the band Spickle from nola? I think they released 2 cds. Anyway it's ex members of that. sorta heavy jazz instrumental stuff. basically similar but doomier and louder.

And I usually have no interest in instrumental stuff but they won me over.

Sorry to keep doing this, but it seems like promoters in some towns are just sending us their bands, and I trust y'alls suggestions more.

Opener ideas for our shows in Cleveland, Little Rock, Memphis and NOLA?

Memphis -- Crowlord, Gringos, Tanks, Hosoi Bros, Reserving Dirtnaps, The Devil's Right Hand (I haven't live there in a few years, but I believe all of those bands are still around).

Little Rock -- Rwake (though I don't think they've played live in a while), Iron Tongue, Snakedriver, Crankbait

I really don't feel economic has as huge of an impact on obesity. Sure it's a factor but when some people state that it's usually as an excuse. It's on the individual. Hell i got in shape and I didn't eat better, I easily ate fast food and cheap bullshit and just worked out and lost weight and gained muscle. It's about dedicated the time to do so or at least in my experience it is. I only started eating better as in just cut out all the garbage later on. Still eat on the cheap but you can still eat healthy on that cheap.

Sorry it just all sounds like excuses to me otherwise.

seriously though, I kinda wonder what the entirety of the poverty you experienced was.
Rural and urban poverty can be identical financialy and vary wildly with lifestyle that goes along with it. Region can also play a major role in how people behave when in a low financial bracket.

An example that most have probably seen would be the two brothers that live in a shack in the swamp on "Swamp People" They have no jobs, no real income to speak of, spend their time foraging, hunting and fishing.
They would certainly qualify at the bottom level of poverty, but their diet and lifestyle keep them very fit.
contrast that with an inner city single parent who was raised by a single parent, and the likely hood of mcdonalds being the main course goes way up.

There is hope though. the communal urban gardening movement is a great thing, as well as a resurgance of civic pride in some of the worst city's like Detroit. (I base that solely on the Anthony Bourdain show that featured Detroit) Having a local sourced foody culture like here in the PNW can't be a bad thing either. neighborhood farmers markets, micro farms, rooftop gardens. All growing trends that have a positive benefit and are not exclusive to higher incomes. they just take some effort.
There was a meme going around last week that asked why kids are not taught how to garden in schools. I think that would be a HUGE benefit to the national health. I know I am way more likely to eat veggies that came from my own garden.

I know a lot of people on ILF scoff at a lot of 'social justice issue stuff' but your race, gender/gender identity, sexuality and disability status play a huge role here too.

I don't know anyone on here's personal identities but I know as a white, straight, cis-gendered male with an able body, I have access to a lot of resources people without some or all of those identities get. So regardless of class and income level, I still have a network of 'whiteness,' 'straightness,' etc. that I can tap in to that people in oppressed communities do not.

lol ok man. no need to share if you don't want to. I was not doubting you, I'm genuinely interested in the topic. Partially because my wife is doing her grad work on it, and partially because it's actually interesting.

This place is absolutely about sharing opinions, it's also about sharing knowledge. Having some background would have added to my understanding of where you are coming from with your stated opinion, but again, if you aren't interested in doing that, nobody is twisting your arm. I hope I did not come across as if I was attacking you, that was not my intent.

Gotcha. Thanks to you and live-i-evil, I decided to pass on the amp. It looks neat and all, but I don't need a third amp and I damn sure can put that cash to better (though less fun) uses.

We use StoreEnvy, and thus far haven't done the tax stuff because it's been so small. I think I'm going to keep up with it this year, though, and file in part as a musician. Grant from In the Company of Serpents explained some of the logistics and it seems like a good idea. He said (and I think this is coming from his/a CPA) that if you file as a musician, you can write off albums that you buy as job-related research. It also probably depends on whether or not a slight boost to your gross income would bump you into a higher tax bracket.

Also, RE: obesity, Phil (the other guitar/vox guy in Khemmis) and I are both PhD students in sociology, and he focuses on health/life outcomes. Well, look hoss, you stated an opinion that is undermined by a massive body of scientific research -- those of us involved in social scientific research and teaching the social sciences have a tendency to take that stuff seriously . Nobody was saying what happened to you didn't happen, but just that being a statistical outlier means your experiences are not representative of the larger population. I, too, am an outlier; born and raised in the south by two public school teachers yet wound up teaching at a state university and later going to CO to work on my PhD, I was never overweight, etc etc. Nobody is attacking you, just trying to point you in the direction of literature to highlight the bigger picture in America.
